AIBU about non-taxed cars causing parking issues?

A new resident has moved onto my street renting a property and has gradually now added and parked on public highway 6 cars without tax, one of which is SORN and one which has neither MOT or tax. The guy doesn't move them, except at night to squeeze up close to other residents cars or to take up more space to bring more untaxed cars onto the street, usually at night. Then they just sit and sit. In addition to the untaxed cars, he has another 3 cars which are driven by him and his wife regularly. So there can be 9 cars belonging to his house here on a typical day. This is having a huge knock on effect on other car tax paying residents who live there. It is a terraced house street and parking is limited as it is. Everyone has been forced to park further away including disabled and elderly drivers, delivery vans can't pull over, road cleaners. maintenance, car recovery, emergency services can't get parked. Reports to DVA have resulted in no action whatsoever... Anyone else think this is beyond unreasonable? And what can anyone do about it? The DVA do nothing and the police refer you back to the DVA...

Thirteenblackcat · 06/03/2025 20:38

Report them if they are untaxed. They can be removed

Try 101 for advice?

Vaxtable · 06/03/2025 20:41

Report to your local council as abandoned, report them to your local,
police and the dvla and keep reporting daily if necessary

bge · 06/03/2025 20:42

How weird. Why is he doing this?

Exactly, why...? So, the all the cars that don't move have nearly a full years MOT although this has now reduced the longer they sit. So Mot but no tax made me think maybe he is selling them But no-one is buying them or collecting them...

SORN means Statutory Off Road Notification.. report it.

senua · 06/03/2025 20:55

A SORN is a Statutory Off Road Notification. You can't have an off road vehicle on the road / public highway. Report it.

Oh2bFree · 06/03/2025 20:57

All cars have already been reported many weeks ago. They are still there. Nothing has been done about it.

Get in contact with your local mp. A good kick up the bum
tends to help move these things along.

bge · 06/03/2025 20:58

Do you think all the neighbours collectively could talk to him about it? Or his wife?

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 06/03/2025 20:59

How do you know that these vehicles aren't taxed, have you taken all the registration details and looked them up?

That’s usually how to check.

as a previous poster said, local politicians can be surprisingly efficient with this sort of thing.

No, everyone is just passive aggressive about it. Don't know if some of the neighbours even have figured out who all these cars belong to. One builder who couldn't get parked near the house he was working on said something to him but that was about it. The guy and his wife are foreign so I'm guessing everyone is afraid to say anything in case they are accused of being racist... The guy is fairly big and burly, some of the neighbours who have been speaking amongst themselves are either older, live on their own or female, so are hesitant to approach him.

Yes, I looked up the cars online as that's the only way to check now. The cars are easy to spot, conspicuous by their arrival at night and then not moving for weeks.

Keep reporting them to the DVLA. They will eventually come and get them. I’ve done this in the past and they’ve been towed away. https://www.gov.uk/report-untaxed-vehicle

Report an untaxed vehicle

Anonymously report an untaxed vehicle that you’ve seen.

Oh2bFree · 06/03/2025 21:30

I will keep trying, I will also try to find out who the landlord is as well and will contact local politicians too. I know anyone can park on public highway, it's not about claiming the spot outside your house. It's about the sheer number of non taxed cars ousting the rest of the residents who do pay their tax so far away from their homes that it becomes unreasonable, selfish and nuisance behaviour. Or at worst, criminal behaviour, these cars could be part of a larger syndicate on the black market. As if someone has invested or hiding money in a stock of cars...

You can’t get the MP etc involved if no one has spoken to him about it yet! You all need to speak to him before going to authorities

bge · 06/03/2025 21:32

Literally the first thing anyone will say is ‘what happened when you spoke to him about it, what did he say’?

Oh2bFree · 06/03/2025 21:34

So if the neighbours don't approach him first they can't report the untaxed vehicles?

OP posts:
Oh2bFree · 06/03/2025 21:40

Some neighbours have asked him to move the cars before, they go round the block and then reappear again in a different spot. The rest of the neighbours as I explained before, are afraid to approach him. I am only considering other options because the reports to the usual authorities did not work. The problem remains, he has 6 untaxed vehicles parked on public highway.

OP posts:
Pigeontails · 06/03/2025 21:45

Probably selling them. Report for being untaxed and get onto council, they usually have a limit to how many cars people can store to sell this way.

They know what they are doing is wrong, why should anyone have to speak to them before taking action.

clarrylove · 06/03/2025 21:48

Report them as abandoned vehicles?

Cattery · 06/03/2025 21:48

DVLA will contact him and he has to remove them from the public highway
