To keep the Ocado carrier bags?

Or am i committing some sort of faux pas? I know I can get 10p a bag for returning them but I thought this was an offer not a demand? I use the bags for stuff.

last night I went out and left dh in charge of the Ocado delivery and he was grumpy with me when I got back as he reckons the delivery driver was stroppy with him and told him we had 96 bags. Dh knows nothing about the bag compensating scheme and seems to think the bags have to be returned and I’m some sort of carrier bag thief.

How big was your delivery or did each can of baked beans have its own bag?

LizardQueeny · 06/03/2025 19:04

No you don't have to return them. They are yours.

Ha ha, don’t think so. Years ago I did have a washing up brush in a carrier bag of its own as it was the only “household cleaning” type product. Think they separate different groups of items.

No idea how many bags we got yesterday but they’re good for lining the bathroom bin and also for emptying the cat litter tray. I get through them!

Iirc you can return any bags to them and still get 10p. You can buy 100 bags for less than £10 on Amazon. I’m tempted to make a bulk order of carrier bags and make my fortune selling them to Ocado for a profit! 😁

It could have been because they won't take more than 99 bags back in one go so it was more about 'you're about to go over the limit and we'll need two batches to take them back' rather than you're required to give the bags back - after all a lot of people will use them as bin bags so they won't get them all back anyway.

I'd just be happy I'd got my order, mine for this morning was cancelled overnight with no explanation, although I have been able to book it for tomorrow morning so we'll see.

They only pay you 10p for their own bags. They will recycle others but not pay you

you only get 10p for their own bags but they will take other bags as well (and the maximum is 99)

You don't have to return them. I often use them for other stuff (or when I go shopping else where) and then return them to ocado though I have to say from a utility point of view their bags are the worst. They are so thin, full of holes and tear too easily. I hope it's because it makes recycling easier or maybe it's just cheaper material.

They just get recycled anyway so I guess the more use you get out of them before you return them the better for the environment.

Gish they sometimes ask if I have any to return but I use the bags to line the bathroom bins and for food waste. They've never said anything - mind you I don't use Ocado often.
