To think that most men would cheat if they could get away with it?

If there were zero consequences, how many men would actually stay faithful?

OP posts:
spoodlesee · 03/03/2025 22:00

I think a lot of men & women would cheat if it was with someone they really liked and zero consequences. However in the real
world there is always consequences so a moot point really.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 03/03/2025 22:04

Probably a lot.
Probably a lot of women too.

I don't think we want to know the truth of what people would do generally if there were zero consequences for their behaviours.
It would be quite terrifying.

InMyMNEra · 03/03/2025 22:05

If they knew for a fact that it wouldn’t be known, then yes, I think they would

Almostwelsh · 03/03/2025 22:08

The majority of men will cheat if they have the opportunity and think their partner won't find out. I didn't used to think this, but experience has shown otherwise. Even men you would never have thought it of.

TealOP · 03/03/2025 22:09

I wouldn’t and there’ll be some men who are the same. I don’t think it’s about labelling a whole gender as cheats if they got the chance. More about some people just being untrustworthy, regardless.

ClearHoldBuild · 03/03/2025 22:10

Are all men potential cheats yet not all women?

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 03/03/2025 22:10

I don't think I know any man in all generations of my circle (family, friends etc) who hasn't cheated in some way. Whether it was sexting or full on affairs.

I think finding a man who has never cheated in any relationship in his adult life would be incredibly rare.

Itisbetter · 03/03/2025 22:11

I don’t think so, but then I wouldn’t cheat so I find it hard to imagine why anyone would.

NC543210 · 03/03/2025 22:11

I think the older I get the more I see it happening. Both men and women though.

That said, I do think I've witnessed it more from men.

Tallyrand · 03/03/2025 22:13

I hate people who generalise.

They're all idiots.

ssd · 03/03/2025 22:14

I read somewhere women are more likely to stray than men

If all women are faithful I wonder who they'd be cheating with?

Jolpie · 03/03/2025 22:16

I genuinely do not think my DP is this type to senselessly cheat behind my back just for sex. He is not overly confident with women and he is absolutely terrible at lying or hiding anything from people. He is a total people pleaser. However I’m not completely stupid, he could form a bond or connection with another woman in a deeper way, like he has with me, I just don’t think he would mindlessly shag about. If he was to have an affair it would be more likely to be an emotional one. I think I would be more deeply upset and heartbroken at him falling in love with someone else, however I would find it more gross and icky for him to sleep with someone else behind my back and I would instantly hate him.

I really think it’s a lot about personality that leads people to cheat in different ways, men and women who can detach from their emotions more easily than others or looking for something to fill a gap they aren’t fulfilled in their relationship - but usually they haven’t bothered to TELL their partner how they feel and end up acting on an attraction to someone else instead of either fixing things at home, or leaving and starting again.

Single ones. 😁

Scottishskifun · 03/03/2025 22:20

Like anything I think it's down to the individual and I don't think it's possible to generalise.

I think MN can make it seem like all men cheat but then there aren't many husband appreciation threads so it's then skewed. In RL I only have 2 divorced friends due to cheating and late 30s. There is still time I suppose for others!

Porcuporpoise · 03/03/2025 22:21

Yeah cause what single woman doesn't love a married man? 🤔

Women cheat just as much.

Brave posting that on here. Everyone knows most men are cheats and most women are not (on mumsnet anyway)

skippy67 · 03/03/2025 22:26

Not just men.

ClearHoldBuild · 03/03/2025 22:26

It was a rhetorical question for the OP but thanks for answering 💐

I would eat all the cake.and take lots of lovely drugs.

BlondiePortz · 03/03/2025 22:51

No every male or female is that into other people to bother, sure cheating happens if you choose to do it but as not every person on the planet is driven by sex, relationships, dating or cheating I don't know how a blanket rule can be used for every single person on anything

Are all women one collective or is it just men people say it of? Whether it is cheating or anything else, to think like that to me shows a lack of intelligence

JustTalkToThem · 03/03/2025 22:53

Why no - posters on Mumsnet aren’t just randomly anti-men …. Why do you ask?

ShamrockShenanigans · 03/03/2025 22:54

Oh God, you again OP?

How many of these silly threads have been deleted so far?

financialcareerstuff · 04/03/2025 10:13

You know the funny thing is, I almost wonder if it might take away some of the fun... the risk, the adrenaline, the sense of rebellion....?

It would be interesting to know how many are really put off by the fear of being caught. I think it must actually be quite easy to cheat with very low risk if you want to....so I think there are a lot of other factors that keep people faithful or incline them to cheat, regardless.
