Missed credit card payment - worried.

I missed my minimum payment deadline by 12 hours due to being in a different country due to a poorly relative & it didn't cross my mind over the last 2 weeks.

I've had a letter to say I had a late payment and now I'm worried about my credit rating, I've never missed a payment of anything in the last 10 years & have an amazing credit rating.

We are looking to purchase our dream house when our mortgage expires in 2 years and I'm gutted.

Will this have a horrible effect on our house buying in two years or will one payment not have too much of an effect?

It sounds like a late payment rather than a missed payment.

If this is the only time you’ve done it and you’re credit rating it otherwise good, you’re fine. I miss a payment April last year and my credit rating has already rebounded to the excellent rating.

Edit - I did pay it 2 days later when I realised I hadn’t done it.

One late payment shouldn’t make a difference.

Credit checks actually sometimes have the details about how much the payments you are making are on a monthly basis.

If you’re making more than the minimum monthly payment, this looks good and will reassure lenders that a payment that was late by a day was just a blip.

Going forward, it might be worth setting up a standing order or direct debit for the minimum monthly amount each month, so as to ensure it definitely goes out.

You can always make a separate larger payment later if you can afford to.

It seems like they've marked it as a missed payment due to the letter, I called them and they said I'm not longer in arrears since I've paid over the minimum since, but they can't do anything about the credit rating?

I had a missed credit card payment that was noticed when I took out my mortgage. I missed it because I completely forgot. The reaction from the mortgage company was that it was obvious this was a one off and they weren't bothered by it, because they could see that for years before I'd never missed one, and had paid them all since.

Happened to me once and I called the company, explained it had slipped my mind due to circumstances paid the outstanding and arranged to set up a DD there and then so it didn't happen again.
They inturn cancelled the late payment fee and it was all done and dusted with.

I missed a couple of cc payments a few years ago and literally just took out a mortgage last week. Nobody said anything about that and my credit rating is solid.
