To see aero bottles as a gateway to vaping?

K2togm1 · 01/03/2025 10:07

Aero bottles are those with a smelly ring on top, smells come in many fruity flavours. The idea is that it 'helps' your kid drink more water, but I think the smell could be potentially habit-forming and lead to seek those same artificial smells and flavours, then available as vaping flavours. Am I being silly to think this?

Yes. You are being extremely silly.

Fruit flavour drinks are not a gateway to vaping.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 01/03/2025 10:09

You mean "Air up" and you're being silly.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 01/03/2025 10:10

I got my kids a Fruit Shoot and the next weekend they were doing heroin. You are right to be concerned. A lot of kids who have a dummy go on to smoke. Coincidence?

madamweb · 01/03/2025 10:10

I know kind of what you mean, but I think you are over thinking it.

I think the key factor determining who vapes amount young people that I have noticed is whether their parents vape

I think you're right OP.

I also think baking with kids using flour is a gateway to using cocaine

TwentyTwentyFive · 01/03/2025 10:11

You think air up bottles are a gateway into vaping...

It's only just 10am and I think that might just be the most ridiculous thing I'll read on the internet today...

Bonjovispyjamas · 01/03/2025 10:13

Aero bottles 😆 If you can get minty chocolate flavour, I'm in.

K2togm1 · 01/03/2025 10:50

Hahaha well you all made me chuckle, thanks.

However, your arguments didn't make me any more comfortable. I still think there is something in it, and sometimes people in here have just the info one needs.

Using that logic, you'd have to stop children liking fruit in case they like fruit flavours in the first place.

fourelementary · 01/03/2025 11:20

Tbh oral fixation often starts with baby bottles and dummies. After all a dummy is literary a word for fake and dummies were originally called “dummy tits” as they were to fake boobs for a baby to suck on. People that get stuck in the oral fixation stage and only learn to self soothe with something in their mouth and not helped to address their emotions and needs in a healthy way DO end up the people who overeat, smoke or vape…
Not sure air-ups are any worse or better but may be a sign of an oral fixation in a kid, or may be a healthier than juice way to drink “flavoured” water…

Not quite true imo, those artificial fruit flavours are highly concentrated versions of what a natural fruit flavour is.

Well yes, another good point! They are suction type drinkers, so there is another link 😂

More ridiculous than Vance requesting a thank you card? 😬

Do you feel that way about sports bottle tops and flavoured water ? Stanley cups ? Air fresheners, shower gels and soaps with fruity smells ?
I’m an age where scented pens and stickers were popular and I’ve never vaped.

Do you think? I would have thought parents of current and recent teens didn't have capes because they didn't exist yet?

Do you think it’s possible that Stanley cup fans have an oral fixation too? I wondered if those mummy influencer types who are a fan have had to get more botox around their mouth for the lines created by drinking from their Stanley all day.

I imagine that stealing a drag from your parent or sibling’s vape was a popular first time to vape. My kids admitted trying their dad’s vape when he left them in the car to pop into a shop and left the vape in the car. These are the same kids who have admitted trying my coffee and wine when I went to the loo.

The parents may have switched from cigarette to vape for health reasons or because it’s easier to hide from a spouse.

I have children in their early 20s and vapes were around 10 years ago.

LittleGreenDragons · 01/03/2025 11:55

Are you thinking of them having a pavlovian response to it? They associate putting something in their mouths with a specific smell/taste that gives comfort (and parental approval)?

I kind of get your thinking but I also think there's nothing in it, it's not a gateway to vaping.

True, was thinking of setting examples when the kids were little

No, because flavoured water is rubbish, and we weren't told that keeping those stickers as stuck on moustaches was good for us.
I'm thinking simply that getting used to doing something healthy (drinking water) but only when it has a super concentrated artificial flavour is not a good thing in itself, and then add that those flavours you've created a daily habit of, are also available as a highly addictive and full of crap vape.

I agree op, and have refused to buy the ridiculously over priced water bottles when asked!

This is completely and utterly bonkers thinking 😂
