To think the private residential security service is a bit is a scam?

So, I live in a leafy wealthy village. Lots of big detached houses, Tesla, Audi's, Landrovers etc (don't worry this isn't a stealth boast, I love in the ex-council 2 bed mid terrace!).

Any way. The local WhatsApp group and Facebook group reported a lot of incidents in Ring doorbells the last few weeks or so. Maybe since January. This was new activity, very rarely would anything like this happen. The odd bloke wandering up a drive way, someone trying a car door... that kind of thing. Stuff you would never know about if you didn't have a camera doorbell. The crime map shows like maybe half a dozen incidents in the entire year. This is how sleepy and boring the village is.

Anyway, a sudden increase occurs over about 5-6 weeks, and then all of a sudden, who appears, offering their services? A local security company that will drive round the subscribed houses for"just" £150 pm. Peace of mind and all that. They drive round in their tiny little smart cars, all liveried up in the police blue and yellow squares.

Seems around 30-40 houses have signed up for this. And then, mysteriously the incidents have dropped.

Now...I'm a cycnic and think they sent their own guys round to create a need, and then oh look, it magically goes away when they're pootling around.

Any one else had experience with these companies? Just feels like a scam!

Could be.
It seems like an easy way of generating an income. Certainly less risky than my own chosen career.

I mean, what would they even do, and how likely is they're going to be driving past at the right time?
