Just hoping for general opinions on this.

DH’s family member comes round to visit roughly once a month. They will often wander off to ‘look around’, looking at photos and books on the shelves, that’s fine by me. They have a habit of reading any cards that are on the fireplace (birthday, thank you’s, etc), which I suppose if they are on display I don’t mind too much. But just before Christmas they had a good old root around under the tree at the gifts, reading all the labels and picking them up trying to guess what they were (I asked them not to as DD was there, she’s 15 but still!), and I also once came across them in DD’s bedroom looking under her bed for our cat. I did say then that it’s her room and she hadn’t given permission for anyone to go in.

DH thinks it’s fine as we have nothing to hide but I feel it’s crossing boundaries. Does anyone else have family or a friend that does this too and how do you feel about it?

Never known anyone do this. Very weird.

I dont think it would bother me too much having them look at cards or whatever but rifling through bedrooms would be a hard no 😂

Chuchoter · 25/02/2025 09:05

It's rude of them.

Next time she does it, have a rifle through her handbag and make sure she catches you doing so you can say, 'Just having a little nosey, like you are!'

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 25/02/2025 09:15

I absolutely loathe this. My dm does this and reads cards and makes little comments and reads my blackboard with drs appointments etc and asks about them. It does grind and I find it very nosey.

CurlewKate · 25/02/2025 09:20

Obviously it's completely out of order-because it's a MIL. If she didn't look, she would be not showing any interest.🤣

cinnamonbunfight · 25/02/2025 09:20

That’s incredibly rude.

@Chuchoter "Next time she does it, have a rifle through her handbag"

Because that's EXACTLY the same.....
