Asking for opinions when your mind is set

As above, why do people ask then if you politely offer a different opinion already have their mind set or get argumentative?

If their mind is set then they don’t need to ask for advice. Unless they’re bored and have nothing better to do.
Sometimes I hope the weight of feeling from many similar views can give the nudge they need to do something that’s difficult.
Or maybe it’s a crazy idea and they’re looking for that one post that says it’s fine? And they continue the craziness.
Arguments aren’t good for anyone, but I do read some and just think wow!
