So I broke up with my partner (let's call him Sam) during Covid. It was a serious relationship and lasted around 3yrs. We were friends for about 2 years prior.
After the relationship I had a baby with someone else. It didn't work out and we coparent.
I recently got a new job and met someone at work at the end of last year. We've been dating for almost 6 months. During the course of our relationship I've thought that he reminds me a lot of Sam. They drive very similar cars (make and colour) they have the same favourite food, their personalities are similar etc. there's been many times when I've been creeped out by how similar 2 strangers can be.
The other day we went shopping and I randomly asked him if he's been to the US. He said yes and told me what state (it's isn't one that I would say is a popular holiday destination). Again I thought it was another creepy similarity as my ex went there too. I asked when and turns out they went in the same year and month. Creepy I thought, again. He asked what his name was and I didn't tell him. But the next day we talked again and I told him his first name. He then said his last name and we both gasped in shock. He used to be friends as part of a wider friend group of 7. They weren't that close but they were both on that boys trip together. They've grown apart now and haven't spoken in a year and basically only see each other at mutual friends functions now. He says he doesn't care as this wasn't intentional and now feelings are involved he is thinking about our future and as he puts it "when I'm 60, it's only gonna be me and that person I'm with so I can't let others dictate who I love".
