AIBU to request 50/50 hybrid working

Hi all!

So the company I work for are moving to hybrid working finally (admin, can be done from home effectively, doesn’t cause any issues at all). But they’re not bringing it in like most companies do as a standard 20/80 or 40/60 they’re bringing it in so you request what days you’d like and they approve or decline. But essentially I just don’t want to take the mick so thought I’d get some opinions!

My colleague who works 5 days a week asked for 2 days WFH and 3 days in office ie 40/60 which is very commonly offered and they approved. BUT I work 4 days… and would ideally like to do 2 days home 2 days office because just 1 day at home seems like a lot of hassle to get the set up etc for one day! But obviously that’s 50/50, so I’m concerned it’s a bit cheeky? But then just 1 out of 4 days WFH seems unfair 😂HELP

YANBU= I would want 50/50 over 25/75 also, I think it’s fine to request
YABU= it’s unreasonable to want to be out of office half the days you work.

Heavens op

it’s not being “cheeky”

they’ve offered something as a possibility
and you wish to request
and if they decline then you revisit

Are you the only one working 4 days a week?

ChonkyRabbit · 22/02/2025 16:33

Sounds fine.

Yeah I’m the only PT staff member. Everyone else does 5 days. I do 4

I mean personally I'd be going for 75% if 100% isn't allowed, but I much prefer working from home! They can only say no, then I'd drop to 50% as a compromise.

Jeschara · 22/02/2025 16:35

Sounds OK to me.

Anyone else asking for 50/50 or more?

DoYouReally · 22/02/2025 19:05

I don't understand your thinking at all.
I don't see the relevance in what anyone else has requested or been approved.

You were asked to submit your preference. Why not just do that?

NoseyFarkers · 22/02/2025 19:12

I think it will be fine. Absolutely no problem in asking anyway, it sounds like they're trying to meet preferences.

However...if they come back and say actually, you need to be 60% in the office like the others...offer to do 6 in 10 days in the office, so just go in for three days instead of two every third week or so.

*Edited to say - seeing as they're openly asking, however, I agree with a pp. I'd ask for one day in the office a week and see what they say in your shoes.
