So today about 30 or so cars, half of which have horse boxes, have appeared in our small town and have decided to park on an extremely busy roundabout.

The roundabout is busy as it’s next to an outlet centre. There’s plenty of parking in the outlet centre and there’s also an empty Sunday market carpark at the other end of the town. But instead these folks have decided to mount their horse box cars on the pavements, as well as in the road and any and every grassy verge.

its absolute pandemonium as now there’s only width for one car at each roundabout point. There’s also no space for people to use the pavement and I’ve seen people with prams and walking sticks go into the road quickly to get past all the range rovers.

any point in reporting this to the local police? It’s been like that since 9am this morning. The roundabout is usually busy as it’s next to the outlet but with this it’s carnage.

The owners of said cars have set up tables in the beer garden of a pub also in the roundabout and are selling saddles and look half cut.

am I wasting my time reporting this? As I said there’s a perfectly safe and usable Sunday market with space for 100 cars that’s a 1 minute drive away and completely empty right now.

Why wouldn't you report it?

GreenElfWitch · 22/02/2025 15:16

I would, it sounds dangerous.

MinnieCoops · 22/02/2025 15:17

I'm sure the police are aware

Well I’m just surprised it’s still there. There’s no way a police car hasn’t been past all day, and it’s clearly a safety hazard.

I suspect they are perhaps afraid to approach the group. We also have a local FB group that’s called our town made safe, that usually comments on issues etc and weirdly not one person has commented about this. Usually this is the type of thing someone would say ‘how’s this safe?’ But eerily silent.

C = car

This is something that definitely needed a photo! Dozens of horse carts parked up on a roundabout in the middle of a retail estate!

Othermentions · 22/02/2025 15:34

How big is this roundabout that it can fit 30 odd horse boxes

and they had to then lead the horses out of the boxes across the roundabout and on to the show?!

taxguru · 22/02/2025 15:35

The more people who report may actually force the police to take some action. They aren't proactive these days, so even if several police cars have gone past, they'll just ignore it. If they get lots of reports, they can't ignore it and will have to do "something" otherwise they can't tick their boxes which is all they care about these days.

Yup. I guess they’ve decided to make the pub their base for operations but the pub car park has space for maybe 15 cars. So they’ve obvious decided to park on the road, pavement, anywhere as long as they’re as close to the pub.

I suspect if they had parked inside the outlet the police would be forced to confront them as the business park would complain. but as it’s just on public paths and roads they don’t care about how public as much.

How many are actually on the roundabout?

where are the horses!!

Whatisthisbs · 22/02/2025 15:38

The elephant in the room 🤣

I'd imagine that the police have already had numerous reports tbh OP. Its not something you see every day

It’s not that big a roundabout hence bedlam. Also I only saw about 3 horses on display so presumably the rest of the horse boxes are either empty or they’ve decided to leave the horses in the boxes whilst they have a pint and chin wag with their friends.

Call RSPCA whilst you’re at it!

The horses were on the roundabout or the pub car park?!

There’s none in the actual roundabout itself but they’re parked on every inch of pavement and roadside next to all the roads and entrances that lead onto the roundabout. They’re lines up about a good 50m along the pavement of each road as well.

I’m curious about the horses more than anything else!

Othermentions · 22/02/2025 15:44

When did you drive by? After 9am?

purser25 · 22/02/2025 15:45

Are you near Appleby because they have horse fairs though I think in the summer

Pub car park. Can’t imagine the pub agreed to this but knowing the owner he’s a timid guy and not very confrontational.

I drove past at 10am and then arrived back at 2:30. So it’s been like that for at least 4.5hrs. It’s a nice clear sunny day as well.

They'll do bugger all too! Too scared to deal with the "usual suspects!"

We are missing some information I think.
