Wiggling foot when in pain

Ok, so I've got a kind of migraine and can't sleep. It's easing a bit now so able to scroll!

I was laying here realising that whenever I'm in pain or have a migraine I wiggle my foot! Basically move it up and down repeatedly. It's kind of involuntary but seems to help the pain a bit. I'm doing it now and have been doing it for 2 hours!! So not something I could really voluntarily keep up that long if that makes sense.

I've looked it up on Google and found nothing!!

So ... Does anyone else do this? Or just me!

I think I've done this for as long as I can remember. Not really thought about it before though!!!

I do it, but I don't know why.

on a side note ... I'm on a diet and have been lying here thinking ..mmmm.. well I might be in pain, can't sleep, but on the plus side, all this wiggling might be burning some calories! 😉

Yes I do similar.

If I have bad period cramps or if I'm having an IBS flare I'll often realise my toes are wiggling very fast.

Hope your migraine eases soon. X

Not necessarily when in pain but I'm just a compulsive food wiggler anyway, I rub them together when falling asleep. I didn't even know I did it until my parter pointed it out.

I hope those who can't sleep and are in pain feel better soon x

GaspingGekko · 21/02/2025 05:23

Yes I do this. I also tap my feet when nervous.

NewYearNewDietAgain · 21/02/2025 05:53

I do the same! My feet get quite the workout when I'm having a tattoo done! Grin

SALaw · 21/02/2025 05:57

I do it, sometimes very vigorously. No idea why

PsychoSyd · 21/02/2025 06:01

Its displacement activity. You're concentrating on the wiggling, which means you're distracted from the pain.

mdinbc · 21/02/2025 06:14

My DH does this, and while I admit it really annoys me, I understand it is because of pain and never ask him to stop.

Telemichus · 21/02/2025 06:23

Apparently focussed physical movement of another body part disrupts pain signals. Can’t remember where I read though.

Seems there's quite a few of us foot wigglers then! Good to know it's not just me :)
