Canyons please explain how he's got himself into this position of power? Is it just money? I'm really struggling to get a grip on it

Self-promoting narcissist with money buys highly effective media platform, uses it to promote himself and his peculiar views. Self-promoting narcissist with money buys American presidency, uses it to promote himself and his peculiar views. The pair of them team up to further their respective self-promotion and peculiar views.

It's an old story, just more visible now we have all this instant media.

Trump needs his money and his relative youth and his tech cred and capacity.
For the moment.
Trump has no loyalty to anyone, and Musk is not a kow-tower, so they will, in all liklihood, turn on each other. Which will create some fallout, of course.

Quitelikeit · 21/02/2025 04:43

Sadly this type of media influence has been happening for decades with newspapers in this country eg Murdoch throwing his weight behind his favourite PMs to help get them elected

It’s just more obvious now because of how vocal Musk is

The previous owner of Twitter helped Biden get elected in similar ways eg not showing news on his connections and dealings with Ukraine - censoring serious investigations into his son etc

This type of interference from Musk is unnerving! He should stick to cars and space

Trump seems to be a thing a little ott wrt to Europe - he’s making everything about the dollar and seems ready to disregard the historical relationship between the two countries

That is a huge thing to do!

Quitelikeit · 21/02/2025 04:45

And yes it would be quite interesting if they turned on each other!

Musk does not seem to know his place

winerosesandmusic · 21/02/2025 04:58

Where were all the expert political pundits when Biden and Harris were in power.

Politics, politics, politics.
There's nothing else is there Trump, Musk, Musk, Trump.

I'm no fan of either but, good lord, give it a rest for one night.

MumBikini · 21/02/2025 05:01

Money! He has BILLIONS doesn't he? Trump is motivated solely by money, greed, power and personal gratification, so it's v v easy for a rich man to manipulate him..

Mespher · 21/02/2025 05:02

It was forever thus.

Extreme competency.

Extreme competency.

He's come across as the opposite of competent in the last month. The blunders over firings, the easily-hackable DOGE website, the deranged behaviour on social media. Today he told the Polish foreign minister to 'be quiet, little man'.

stayathomer · 09/03/2025 21:08

I always remember dh and his bro going on about what a genius he was etc etc. they still rave about what he’s done in terms of computers etc, they said you can separate the two. I can’t.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/03/2025 21:18

I've heard it said that he doesn't actually know much about tech, just how to invest in the right companies at the right time. I think he succeeds because he's very driven, very focused, and very ruthless.

AzurePanda · 09/03/2025 21:22

Musk has no executive power. He is simply tasked with implementing a policy which formed a key plank of Trump’s election manifesto. This is obviously completely standard practice.
