Emotional over home

I'm selling my first home and i'm an emotional mess. It's the right thing to do as I need and want more space, but by gosh am I grieving. This was my "home", my little sanctuary away from the world. It's really hard to imagine not being able to come here, and it belonging to someone else. I keep looking at all the little touches I did which meant so much to me at the time and wondering if the new buyer will appreciate how much I loved it (probably not, and why should they)

Sorry this probably isn't AIBU, as i'm sure this is fairly normal, but I couldn't find a better topic.

Does anyone have any advice given the millions of other people who must have gone through this too?

Why are you moving? I get being sentimental but it's just bricks. You'll make memories and get attached to your next home.

I understand. For deca I missed my childhood home, mentally going round and hearing the sound the different doors made when they closed. I wasn’t even happy there.

I miss my old home even though I’m happy where I am now. I’ll be devastated when I leave my current home, unless I leave feet first, of course…

People are different and for some of us, it’s not just bricks and mortar. I suggest you think about how you’re going to take your leave and perhaps have a ceremony of thanks, love and dedication? If you have a garden, can you bury something tiny, like rose petals and a tiny letter of love?

I moved from a similar house last year. It was home but we outgrew it.

We moved to a brand new house more than double the size and I’ll admit I regretted it at first but now we’ve settled I couldn’t be happier. We’ve just started to decorate and put our mark on it. The old owners will feel the same and make it theirs.
