Shamelessly using AIBU as I need speedy responses as due on holiday next Saturday.

I don't have - headaches, cough, sore throat, chesty issues, sinus issues.

I have (and have had for about 2 weeks)

  • Terrible neck ache, mainly right side and across the middle of the top of my back
  • a weird woozy feeling generally all day long where I feel not in my own body
  • literally like my blood / bones have something inside them that is making me feel unwell
  • ice cold a lot of the time, hot face
  • shattered. Sleeping longer, bed earlier, taking longer to feel awake etc
  • general creakiness tied into the weird feeling inside my body so getting up and walking is hurting a bit

I'm well enough to work, can do the odd chore, spend time with the kids etc. But my motivation to do anything extra is gone, I'm struggling to even consolidate thoughts (eg packing for trip etc).

The other day I just felt this immense pressure across my body like everything was going to just "pop". That's subsided.

I genuinely (and probably very dramatically) feel that I'll never feel the same again Grin

Menopause

Fencehedge · 16/02/2025 19:12

When did you last have a FBC, or donate blood?

paddyclampster · 16/02/2025 19:12

Get your thyroid checked!

JimHalpertsWife · 16/02/2025 19:13

Had my bloods checked about a year ago, slightly low iron, but "normal" they said

Post viral syndrome

Kidney infection

Age

JimHalpertsWife · 16/02/2025 19:18

The creaks and aches I would be happy to accept / medicate for / try and exercise out. But this feeling inside my whole system just feels hideous. It's odd as it isn't painful - I said to dh it feels like there is something running through my bloodstream that either shouldn't be there or is actively fighting something. It's so odd.

How old are you OP? Any existing medical conditions?.

JimHalpertsWife · 16/02/2025 19:21
  1. Nothing pre existing. Still getting periods every month so if menopausal then it's a shame it isn't giving me fewer of those!

A LOT of viruses are running their course at the moment. Sounds like a bout of the flu that you have some immunity to, which is why it only presents with mild symptoms.

JimHalpertsWife · 16/02/2025 19:25

I was hoping it was just some odd bug - except now I'm 2 weeks in and it's still running full pelt at me. I'm normally a "go to bed for 3 days and then it'll go" person.

I'll call the GP in the morning see if there's any chance a bloods / thyroid check before I go away.

OP posts:
hazelnutvanillalatte · 16/02/2025 19:26

Sounds like a bad flu or similar virus

FromHere · 16/02/2025 19:27

How low was the iron? It needs to be at least 70 to avoid symptoms

Wishihadanalgorithm · 16/02/2025 19:30

I’d consider getting your bloods done. Could be meno, virus or vitamin deficiency.

I’m thinking you need to get some vit D and maybe chondroitin and glucosamine for the aches.

Roselilly36 · 16/02/2025 19:31

Could be viral perhaps, have you taken an iron supplement? I would give it another couple of weeks, and if no improvement see GP for referral and further investigation.

whereimfrom · 16/02/2025 19:32

B12 deficiency

AlteredStater · 16/02/2025 19:33

Another one suggesting a thyroid check.

Have you tried taking your temperature first thing in the morning before getting out of bed?

TheLurpackYears · 16/02/2025 19:33

Low vitD?
And perimenopause.

pearbottomjeans · 16/02/2025 19:33

Was going to say it sounds autoimmune but it’s only been 2 weeks so wouldn’t want to jump straight to that!

AlwaysFreezing · 16/02/2025 19:36

Hmmm. Do you take vitamin D?

I felt very much like this when I was deficient. So weird, like nothing definite but something definitely NOT right. And it was an insidious creep. I probably wasn't right for a while but because it was nothing definite, I just put it down to my age/busy life/not sleeping well enough etc.

I had a really strong, year long treatment regime, and it worked wonders. Now I take high strength vit d every day and a spa tone and a sublingual high strength B12 (life long veggie). And I haven't felt like it since.

Might be worth considering.

Sunnydiary · 16/02/2025 19:37

I had a virus like this for six whole weeks.

DragonBalls · 16/02/2025 19:38

A non-specific virus complicated by internet-induced neurosis?

MrsLeonFarrell · 16/02/2025 19:39

There is a flu going round at the moment that lasts for weeks with a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. Worth getting some blood tests though.

Chumpfriend · 16/02/2025 19:54

I was ill for a full month at Christmas with these exact symptoms. And like you, I am almost never ill. A non-specific viral thing that fully knocked me out. Everyone else had snotty noses and a cough but I was just very unwell. Four weeks is when I started to feel better. Sorry - but trying to give you hope/reassurance 🤷‍♀️🙃

Staysexyanddontgetmurdered · 16/02/2025 20:02

I felt exactly like this around this time last year, then my daughter came down with slap cheek. I think I must have had it too but I didn't get the 'slapped cheek' part of it. I thought I had arthritis, my joints were so sore they felt like they were going to pop exactly as you said. It went away after around 3 weeks. Could it be that?
