Am I about to get food poisoning?

Was meant to roast a whole chicken, accidentally put the grill on the oven rather than the actual oven!
Put it on 200 c and left it on for two hours 20 minutes. I ate some chicken skin & two small bites on the chicken before I reliezed (nobody else ate it thankfully!)
It looked cooked on top and then as you go through slightly more pink but not raw.

Have I given myself food poisoning? 🥴 I'm panicking as I've got Covid at the moment and that's floored me let alone food poisoning on top!

Presumably the bit you ate was cooked, so no reason to be worried about food poisoning.

cgk · 16/02/2025 17:04

If you ate the top bit that was grilled, then it was cooked and you should be ok.

Pippa12 · 16/02/2025 17:04

I think you’ll be ok. Especially if it was only pinkish as you dug further in. Easy mistake, especially when you’re not 100%. I hope you feel better soon!

Quinlan · 16/02/2025 17:09

You really will be fine. Why is there a “will I get food poisoning from eating this totally fine food” every day on mumsnet?

You didnt chow down on the raw middle. You ate a couple bits from the top which were totally cooked.

PinkPonyClub25 · 16/02/2025 17:12

I only posted because I get anxious about this sort of thing doesn't help that I don't feel well already off the Covid so can't tell it's going to start brewing. It was just the top so hopefully be okay then.

Dear lord think I ought to be banned out of the kitchen till I'm better. 🥲 thanks ladies!

2hrs under the grill?. Surely the top would be burnt to a crisp & pissing out smoke.

It wasn't, that's the strange thing about it! I'm now wondering if I had it on the oven setting and moved it to the grill when I went to turn it off when the yorkies were done.

This Covid is kicking my arse, I've had it three weeks so far and my brain is like mush in my defence!

My Brother’s oven doesn’t work, fan stopped working, he now puts everything in oven with the grill on, he’s been fine, food is cooked, but takes a bit longer. I doubt you would have nice homemade Yorkshire puddings cooked under grill setting, so maybe you did have the oven on for part of the cooking.

Saturdaynightlive · 16/02/2025 17:52

I think that sounds more likely. If it had been sat under the grill all that time, it would definitely be burnt. Were the yorkshires cooked?.chicken can look a little pink around the bones even when it's cooked.

PieonaBarm · 16/02/2025 17:57

I think you'll be fine OP, as a PP said chicken can still look a bit pink near the bone when it's perfectly fine to eat.

I get a bit paranoid with if something is cooked (which is weird as I hold no truck with best before/use by and as long as it sniffs ok it's good!) so I bought a cooks thermometer and now I just temperature check everything when I think it's done. If you worry about cooking I definitely recommend getting one!

PinkPonyClub25 · 16/02/2025 18:18

Yeah the yorkies were cooked, so this means I threw away my dinner for nothing. 😂🥴

Just ordered a food thermometer on Amazon, think this is the best way going forwards I'm sick of being paranoid over food.

So did you not even check the chicken no? Like slice it up and check if it was cooked? 2 hrs 20 mins is a long time for a chicken
