I know this site is NOT for medical advice and can’t be relied on fully but just wondered if anyone could help as I’m a bit desperate!

Basically I know a little bit about arythmias because I have one that makes my heart go too quickly but I’ve never had issues with it going irregular

for context- in hospital and suddenly felt quite unwell. I was on constant heart monitoring and the computer screen beside me was flashing up with afib and I could see the QRS were slightly irregular. I asked the nurse and he said there’s no arythmia and it’s fine. I think they thought I had seen the afib on the screen and got myself worried but I felt unwell before seeing that and the QRS were irregular. They left and I just kept watching it myself on the screen and eventually it went back to regular and stopped saying afib but occasionally there would be a longer pause between the QRS’s. I tried to get a photo but struggled (I’ll attach what I got, they were taken after the machine stopped saying afib)

im going to ask the doctor when I see them if they can go back and check it (I know the exact timing it started and finished) but I’m not even sure if they’ll be able to because I don’t even know if this is saved or not or if it’s just monitored in the moment!

just wondered in the meantime if anyone could offer any advice/knowledge at all? Thanks x

Hi OP, do you mean where the horizontal line squiggles sharply and the QRSs look different from the others?

Hey! Sorry I was unclear in my OP. No I wasn’t looking at that, tbh it was so hard to get a picture without messing up the result from moving so I think that’s probably just from that. I meant the spaces between the QRS’s- initially they were very obviously irregular but I stupidly didn’t get a picture of it at the time. After 15 minutes it stopped saying Afib on the screen and it all seemed regular but then there would be one random qrs space much longer than the rest x

To me, your rhythm looks reasonably regular but does have a lot of artifact - this is when movement or poor contact between the electrode and your skin cause it not to read correctly.

Without seeing a 12 lead printout I wouldn't be able to interpret that further, but I wouldn't be concerned with what is in your photos.

Ah okay, apologies I thought that's what you were referring to!

What's the arrhythmia that you've experienced in the past?

jamontoastisthenest · 16/02/2025 01:00

Atrial fibrillation.

Ignore the readout.

The most likely thing is that you were moving and breathing, both can confuse the silly automated analysis and there is a lot of artefact on the pictures you have taken.

Lots of people have a small change in rhythm due to breathing. It's one of the reasons someone recording your ECG might ask you to take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds.

AF is, by definition, irregular.

OP, I can't advise on this but you could invest in a Kardiamobile which is a little ECG type thing you touch your fingers on whenever you think you're having an episode. It takes a reading and connects to your mobile. If this happens again, you can then keep the record and show it to your doctor.
