This isn’t to be taken too seriously it’s just out of curiosity…

I noticed recently when voting on AIBU that I had been part of a small minority when voting on a couple of occasions.
I realised that was unusual and most of the time I am part of the larger vote.

These weren’t controversial threads but I was still genuinely surprised that the voting had gone the way it had and that more people didn’t agree with the OP. I wonder sometimes if voting is already well underway if that influences opinion when voting?

There have also been a couple of occasions when I’ve voted one way but changed it later after reading comments that have influenced me to change my mind.

I find it interesting to have my views and opinions challenged and sometimes question myself if I am part of a small percentage who voted.

For my vote - AIBU - my voting varies.
IANBU - I am usually part of the majority vote.

YABU because i am an individual?!

I don’t know if I voted correctly 😂 but I have found my opinion can also change sometimes based on the OP’s own comments that are added further down the thread.
Depending on the topic, I have found some seem a lot harsher critics than I am. I’m new to MN and I feel like I can already guess which way a thread is going to go and which to steer from (some seem to invite negativity).

My opinion has absolutely changed as the comments go on and make me think about the situation from a different angle. That’s a good thing, I think!

Sometimes I don't vote because I'm not quite sure what the question is or sometimes I can see both sides.

I also sometimes change my vote after reading some of the posts on the thread and they sway me to change my mind.

I must admit I'm a bit of a cussed person but I find I go against the consensus of opinion more on the Chat topic forum rather than i ever do on AIBU.

There's a bizarre phenomenon on here where the first five or six posts set the tone for the whole thread, and even if the OP is being completely reasonable/unreasonable in the real world, the vote will sway massively in the opposite direction based solely on the first few posts.

Yes! I noticed this too. We are pack animals more than we consciously realise lots of the time.

TheDandyLion · 15/02/2025 19:42

I've hidden it so I can't see the polls.

user3827 · 15/02/2025 19:51

I thought you couldn't see the "answer " until after voting?
