I saw a child on the way in holding a gift bag that said 'happy valentines' I overheard the mum saying to another that it was for the childs teacher. Aibu to think that is a bit strange?

Why is it weird?
It was probably a homemade card and some chocolates.

You don’t find a child giving an adult teacher a Valentine’s gift a bit weird?

No not really.
Valentine's Day is a saints day that has evolved over centuries about what it means and stands for and how people choose to celebrate.
Some people celebrate it as a day of "love" and even love means different things to different people.
Many children "love" their teachers and want to do something nice for them.

@lucciee I think we found the mum 😂

How old was the child?

If they were 4 then it's quite sweet.

If they were 14 then it's bordering on weird.

My child made their teacher (and me, and sister) a card. They just love occasions. To them it's another thing in the year you celebrate like Easter, Halloween or Christmas. School did a few valentine related things so I don't think it's odd she would see it that way.

5, could be considered quite sweet, mum going along with it to keep the peace…
15, weird and massively inappropriate.

Not entirely sure but I would say around 8 or 9

@TeenLifeMum nope wasn't my kid 😂

It's cute and innocent - take it the way it was intended. I highly doubt the parent was trying to set the child and teacher up on a date.

It's just like giving a teacher a Christmas or end of term gift.
