If you had a Y1 DC

Would you let them go on a 2 night residential trip? The trip was open to Y2 but had places available to Y1 children. My DC is 5. I said I think they're too young so didn't put their name down. Someone I know said I am 'over protective'

That would be too young for me. Year 3 was about right.

I’m probably the most chilled out non worrier of a parent going and I would say this was too long.

Addeline · 12/02/2025 23:10

No. Trust your instincts. Too young.

redgingerbread · 12/02/2025 23:10

No, much too young. Mine is going on his first school residential in y5.

sugarandplum · 12/02/2025 23:10

I have a y1 DD and she is desperate to have a sleepover with friends but both me and the other parents have said not yet.

It's just too young on various different levels imo.

Suzuki76 · 12/02/2025 23:11

Nah. DS is 6 and has done 2 nights away with grandparents but I would only let him do one with school at the moment.

DrEggman · 12/02/2025 23:11

Our school starts residentials in year 2, I was nervous about it but it was fine and my DC had a great time.

I’m not sure I would have liked them to go in year 1!

Girasoli · 12/02/2025 23:11

Too young for either of mine. I think my eldest would be ready now (year 4) or possibly last year (year 3) but no younger really.

YeHaw · 12/02/2025 23:12

Thanks, I even think Y2 is too young really as my DD is late summer born so will only be 6 but apparently its over protective and 'not letting her enjoy herself'. I didn't go on a residential until Y5

I never did either, we just had a week away towards the end of year 6.

Rainbow groups go at age 5
Beavers at age 6
