Shall I go up for a shower or not/Royal mail rant

admirible · 12/02/2025 18:44

Had Royal Mail delivery window given today for 3 expensive parcels. 10.38 - 1. 38 then tracking suddenly changed to 1.38 - 5.02 still sitting here waiting at 6.45 pm. I’m on my own I want my parcels but also want to have my evening shower, shall I jack it in or hang about until late I read somewhere they can now deliver up to 10pm also don’t want to have to hang around for them all day tomorrow again.
Jack it in YABU
hang around YANBU

Can you put a note on the door to leave the parcels in a safe place? Unless they're signed for of course. It would be just typical you'd step in the shower and they'd arrive!

IsANameImportant · 12/02/2025 18:48

I’d have a shower later. There’s no consequences for having a later shower, but there could be consequences if you go for a shower and miss the delivery.

LlynTegid · 12/02/2025 18:48

Have a means of getting covered quickly.

Though if it was Hermes aka Evri, you would not have the issue as you would know 100% the parcel would not arrive if you were in the shower.

I would do that in the day but it’s dark now, no light outside.

I can’t hear the bell in the shower or be able to run downstairs that fast even if I could…

That is sensible, but I’m just not used to being up late. Is this the future deliveries at midnight. I don’t think I can cope.

Personally I would wait. The world is not going end if your shower is delayed

brettsalanger · 12/02/2025 18:55

I doubt it's coming today. Royal Mail don't deliver this late I don't think

Pineapplewaves · 12/02/2025 18:56

Where I live it's not unusual for RM to turn up at 8/9 pm.

Do you have the RM app? You can type in the tracking number and rearrange the delivery for another day. You can also ask for the parcels to be dropped at a post office, delivery office or another address.

It's probably too late to redirect for today so I would just wait until 10pm.

Yeah I am a bit OCD.

I tried to rearrange, it said NOT AVAILABLE. I can’t pick them up, it’s boxes of boots the PO is miles away and I don’t drive.

I've had this more than once with a defined time that gets pushed back and back, and other times where i'm just given the window 7-7, with 7pm being the latest they deliver, never heard of them going til 10, so once you reach 7 i think it's safe to say its not coming today.
I've never received notification that infact they wont be delivering it that day, it just stays showing today by 7pm, til it then updates showing the next days date.

I know because they like to keep you waiting for days if they can.

It’s 19.01 I think I’ll hang on until 19.30.

If anyone’s interested I did once get a bottle of port from Amazon completely refunded due to Royal Mails inefficient delivery advice.

If they're saying that late, I don't think they're coming girl

I feel like they stop working at like 4 - I've never ever had a parcel from royal mail after that time x

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 12/02/2025 19:13

Royal Mail delivery windows are always utterly meaningless here, never take a blind bit of notice of them. They do often deliver surprisingly late, and on Sundays though.

RM arranged delivery is also SHIT. Every time i have a parcel coming and they email me the date it is due to be delivered, if i'm not going to be available i follow the link in their email to rearrange, pick the date i will be in, get the confirmation screen, a confirmation email, and when i input tracking it will show the delivery will be made on the date i've arranged it for. BUT then it bloody goes out for delivery on that original day i rearranged it from anyway, or the day before in some cases! I get the feeling that every time a parcel is scanned it overrides anything thats been arranged on the system like specific day delivery. Sometimes i've made the re arranged day request before the parcel has hit my local depot, so if its scanned on arrival at the depot i think it cancels out whats been logged about a specific date for delivery and updates the system back to delivery next working day, which is very frustrating, as there seems to be a cut off time for choosing one day after original scheduled day, and then you can only choose 2 days later or more. The van that comes round separate to regular daily postie for the bigger parcels up to 7pm also have a nasty habit of using my open doorstep as a "safe place" despite my settings in RM app being set to no safe place, dont leave with neighbour and always take back to depot, i even have the letterbox sticker. There is no porch etc, no front yard, just a standard doorstep that is directly open on to the street.

I know. You just have to be in 24/7 regardless for RM

No leaving on an open doorstep is completely unacceptable, sometimes they leave on my door step but I have front yard so I don’t mind, at least I get the parcel on the day.. I once put in re delivery for 2 days later and it came a month later on a random day.
