To say that living alone is better than sharing a home with anyone?

Even the best relationships or friendships don’t compare to the peace of living by yourself. AIBU to think solo living is the ultimate goal?

OP posts:

I like living with my ds, and I’m excited to live with my partner one day.

I like time to myself but I like living with others.

suburberphobe · 11/02/2025 18:03

I agree with you OP. It's bliss.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 11/02/2025 18:05

I'm lonely as hell

Ilovegoldies · 11/02/2025 18:06

I love living with my husband but up until I met him (at 50) I had never lived with anyone. I have had long term relationships but no one worthy of sharing my home with.

FastFood · 11/02/2025 18:08

I love living alone. It's pure bliss.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 11/02/2025 18:10

I live alone and have done for six years now. I fucking love it!!!

JHound · 11/02/2025 18:11

I worry about a medical emergency living alone, or falling.

But that’s it. I HATE people on my living space. The only way I could share a home is if I was rich enough for us to have our own wings.

EmpressaurusKitty · 11/02/2025 18:13

Just me & my cat, sharing our home.

After 10 years in a crap relationship, followed by lodging & then renting until I could eventually afford to buy my own place, this is pure joy.

aCatCalledFawkes · 11/02/2025 18:14

I love living by myself with my two children and two cats. When I have had boyfriends in the past and they have stayed over it’s been ok in the evening but come morning I just want the house back to myself. I’m dying for them to leave again and practically throw them out 🙈🙈🙈

Bigearringsbigsmile · 11/02/2025 18:14

I can't imagine anything worse tbh

Orangesandlemons77 · 11/02/2025 18:14

On this topic, I keep getting messages about living alone on FB / Insta, with pics of a single bed in a room, is this a 'thing' or something?

Crazycatlady79 · 11/02/2025 18:14

I bloody love it.
However, I share my home with twin 7 year old, 2 nutty dogs and 2 sociopathic cats.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 11/02/2025 18:14

I'm never living with anyone again. I like the peace. Any mess is my mess.

Orangesandlemons77 · 11/02/2025 18:15

I would hate it, but do like a few days when the rest of the family take off sometimes.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 11/02/2025 18:16

Same.

I think it makes a huge difference if you’re doing it by choice.

I love hosting & socialising, but I can only recharge when I’ve closed my front door & everyone’s gone home.

CleanShirt · 11/02/2025 18:16

I'm living alone post divorce and I honestly don't know how I'll ever live with anyone ever again now.

Except my cat.

Completelyjo · 11/02/2025 18:17

No I really wouldn’t enjoy living alone. I like knowing someone else has locked up or helped to lock up, I like going to sleep knowing another adult is in the house, I like waking up and chatting, someone there after a bad day etc.

Comedycook · 11/02/2025 18:18

I love alone time but I actually hated living alone..

BunnyLake · 11/02/2025 18:23

Having lived with three men in my time I will never live with another. I still have young adult sons so enjoy it when they’re home but also enjoy it when I have the house to myself for a few days. I feel I have the best of both worlds in that respect.

LizzieSiddal · 11/02/2025 18:25

YABU

I love having dh around although after saying that we do have plenty of space- we have our own Studies/hobby rooms and I do like that private space. Not sure how we’d get on in a one bed flat!!

Edited to say we have our own bathrooms too which is bloody amazing 😂

FinallyHere · 11/02/2025 18:27

In good health and comfortable financial circumstances, there is nothing to compare. I love it

Sometimes consider what I shall do if I get to the stage where it is no longer possible. Seriously hope never have to face that circumstance.

NotSorry · 11/02/2025 18:28

I've never lived alone. Just with my DH and one of my children these days, although we are about to get a dog. No I'd hate it

sammylady37 · 11/02/2025 18:33

I’ve lived alone for 24 years and I absolutely love it. I will never live with someone else

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/02/2025 18:34

If I had the money I would have adjoining houses, no doubt about it. There are just times when you want your own space with no one else in it, and no compromises required.
