I went to dinner with my in laws and their friends and i was talking to one of their friends and mid way through our conversation someone else started to ask me a question so i cut off the person i was talking to, to answer them. I felt terrible and told the person i cut off sorry and tried to continue our conversation but think they were annoyed.

i tend to overthink, but AIBU in thinking this is rude of me and should I contact them to apologise? Or just let it go

You'll be the only one still thinking about this.

CrispyCrumpets · 10/02/2025 16:03

It's easy done, you apologised immediately, it would be a strange person who would hold a grudge for that.

MissFancyDay · 10/02/2025 16:05

It's fine, a quick apology is all that's needed.

YouDeserveBetterSoAskForIt · 10/02/2025 16:06

It's fine, they won't care at all.
Social anxiety is a real jerk though.

Every time you start to think of it, tap your wrist firmly 3 times and say firmly in your head "NO".

Don't let yourself think about it (or other anxious things).

Tap and then redirect.

It helps :)

Perfectly normal OP, there's no need for you to worry about this!

KezzaMucklowe · 10/02/2025 16:16

We all do this at some point. Don't worry.

SummerInSun · 10/02/2025 16:42

This happens constantly in group settings where multiple conversations are going on. Sounds like you handled it well, and if anyone is in the wrong here, it's probably the person who interrupted you. But this is totally normal and not worth giving another thought to.

After all, if you'd ignore the interrupter completely, or shut them up, you'd now be feeling bad about that!

ItGhoul · 10/02/2025 17:09

This is a normal thing that happens to everyone and there is no way on this Earth that anyone except you is still thinking about it. Don't worry about it.
