Chickenpox advise on creams for bottom!!!

Hi, 7 year old came down with it Friday.

She has it everywhere, I mean everywhere. All over her body, in her ears, her scalp, her mouth, luckily mild temp so far. She's eating, drinking, and playing, and sleeping well despite it all.

Advise on creams, I have a few from boots but the worst part is she has them absolutely covering her back bottom, some on the front, but the back is awful.

I'm bathing her in oats, dabbing dry when she goes to toilet and trying to keep her as comfortable as possible. Any help on creams for the bottom would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Sudocrem works well.
Have you got Calamine lotion?

Piriton helps with any itchiness too.

Metanium is amazing.

RaspberryScrubs · 09/02/2025 14:44

Eurax cream is good.

Also a foam called poxclin.

Hi I've heard a few people say you should bath kids in head and shoulders shampoo as there is some ingredient that works well for chicken pox

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2025 14:48

Poxclin should be fine down there

Recurring1 · 09/02/2025 14:48

Metanium I think it's called in a yellow tube. Works so well on extremely bad nappy rash so I imagine it would work well on the pox.

Poxclin is great. It has a mousse-like consistency, goes on easily and is really soothing.

Thank you so much everyone! Will send the partner out now before the shops shut

Virasoothe and Poxclin are supposed to be good for chickenpox and give chlorphenamine antihistamine (piriton) if she has itching

Hi OP, sympathy! 4 year old DD also has them at the moment and seems to be getting more by the day. First spots appeared on Thursday. She's just had a head and shoulders bath, as I heard that helps. We are also using Virasoothe gel spray. She has had a nasty temp, and it was 39 earlier. She has one inside her ear canal, and she kept saying there was sand in it, bless her! Another tip is oats in a sock, tie it to the tap, and it creates an oat bath, which is good for itching. Loose cotton pyjamas are helpful too. DD is living in them at the moment!

Calomine lotion is not recommended for chicken pox any more. Poxcilin mousse is good

mollycassie · 09/02/2025 17:20

Poxclin mousse is fantastic and can be used everywhere.

I believe the yellow metanium has been discontinued sadly.

I know it's too late for OP but to anyone else reading...

Vaccination can save your kids from going through this!!!
