AIBU to feel angry that a friend said to me “nurses and teachers are control freaks” I am a nurse and have been for years. She’s made a few passive aggressive comments over the years but this one has really wrangled me.

That’s not a friend.

Mosaic123 · 07/02/2025 18:47

How rude of her, and untrue!

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 07/02/2025 18:47

Why do you even take any notice of pish like this? It's just a twatish throwaway comment. what does she do for a living?

pictoosh · 07/02/2025 18:48

Surely that's such a stupid comment you can write it off as her being a sweeping-generalisation-making thicko? It's not clever enough to be an insult.

SeanMean · 07/02/2025 18:49

I would be fuming if a friend said that to me!!!

Gymrabbit · 07/02/2025 18:49

Tbf while it is a generalisation I have said this statement about policemen as it has been true in my experience.

I wouldn’t say it to a policemen though and have never heard it said about nurses.

I have also heard people say that teachers often speak to people like they are children.

I'd ask your "friend" why on earth they want a control freak as a friend?

Yes, people talk out of a hole in their head. Absolutely ignorable.

bellocchild · 07/02/2025 19:11

"Aren't you glad there are some of us control freaks around, to teach your kids and staff your hospitals?"

DemonicCaveMaggot · 07/02/2025 19:13

'I heard people who make generalizations are ignorant and rude' would seem to be the appropriate response.

Benjibas · 07/02/2025 19:15

Strange thing to say but not really personal as such. All nurses and teaches can’t be control freaks after all.

She’s a SAHM.

JustWantsSomeSleep · 07/02/2025 19:59

I mean, that’s her opinion so whatever. Though she must know it’s your job so it’s rather rude and insensitive of her. I’d ignore it and just give her some space… doesn’t really feel like a thing to go to war over but maybe don’t surround yourself with people who have such negative views towards those doing heroic vocations.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/02/2025 20:06

Mumabearwithme24 · 07/02/2025 19:23

She’s a SAHM.

What did she do before that?

What did you say to her?

I2amonlyhereforTheBeer · 07/02/2025 20:07

Mosaic123 · 07/02/2025 18:47

How rude of her, and untrue!

Just this

MissTrip82 · 07/02/2025 20:19

Interesting to be describing the two most highly feminised workforces in this way. I’d suspect this is a deeper issue for her and not really about you,

Mumabearwithme24 · 07/02/2025 20:54

hairdressing

I said yeah some are, but most of the best women I’ve known are either nurses or teachers. Which is true.

pizzaHeart · 07/02/2025 20:58

Yes, you are not being unreasonable to be upset about this comment and reconsider your friendship with this person.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 07/02/2025 21:01

oh she's a SAHM is she?

Well next time she tells you nurses and teachers are control freaks tell her "at least i've got a job!."
