Friend insulted my career choice

AIBU to feel angry that a friend said to me “nurses and teachers are control freaks” I am a nurse and have been for years. She’s made a few passive aggressive comments over the years but this one has really wrangled me.

That’s not a friend.

How rude of her, and untrue!

Why do you even take any notice of pish like this? It's just a twatish throwaway comment. what does she do for a living?

Surely that's such a stupid comment you can write it off as her being a sweeping-generalisation-making thicko? It's not clever enough to be an insult.

Tbf while it is a generalisation I have said this statement about policemen as it has been true in my experience.

I wouldn’t say it to a policemen though and have never heard it said about nurses.

I have also heard people say that teachers often speak to people like they are children.

I'd ask your "friend" why on earth they want a control freak as a friend?

Strange thing to say but not really personal as such. All nurses and teaches can’t be control freaks after all.

I mean, that’s her opinion so whatever. Though she must know it’s your job so it’s rather rude and insensitive of her. I’d ignore it and just give her some space… doesn’t really feel like a thing to go to war over but maybe don’t surround yourself with people who have such negative views towards those doing heroic vocations.

Yes, you are not being unreasonable to be upset about this comment and reconsider your friendship with this person.
