To ask which job I should go for?

Currently in a job i really dislike, I've been here for 3 months. A few of us are in the same boat, a couple of colleagues have cried in the office and one talked about quitting yesterday. Manager and job culture are awful.

Anyway in a very fortunate position to have 2 job offers which I know is lucky. It's just a case of knowing which one to choose.. job one is actually at my last company where I left on promotion, and I know people there.
However it's via a recruitment agency this time..it'll initially be a 6 month position however a lot of my colleagues came in via the agency and it's usually extended, plus I can apply for permanent roles in the company once there. 37h per week and will be 9-5 mon-fri.

Job 2 is in the career I trained/qualify in. Hours are very flexible, can finish as early as 1 or 2 as long as I'm doing my core hours. Very small team but staff seem lovely, meals included at work, lot of autonomy, permanent role.

Need to decide ASAP but just no idea what to do.. pay is similar ish, pay will be a little less for the second job, but longer holidays and I can make the extra money up with holiday work.

The second one sounds good to me.

It's not good to go backwards, especially as you only left fairly recently.

I see no benefits whatsoever in job one apart from you knowing people. I always choose autonomy and flexibility over and above anything else. So option 2

Those are good points, thank you. Job 1 is in the Civil Service dept I left but could be any role so might be something different.

I would also go for job number 2, because it's in the career you trained for, and has better hours, etc. Personally, I think it's a no brainer OP.

Well done on getting the offer of TWO jobs!

Createausername1970 · 07/02/2025 20:51

Why did you feel the need to leave job one (or at least the organisation it's in) last time. Are those reasons still valid? Will you be looking around again?

Personally, Job 2 sounds great.

The second one.

I left on a promotion, I did like the job there but this one was more money and I needed it, it's such a shame it hasn't worked out.

Seems like 2 is better :)

How do the benefits (e.g. pension) compare?

WFH opportunities?

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 07/02/2025 21:28

Job 2! Meet some new people.

WFH opportunities?

Job 1 60% office 40% wfh, job two no wfh, but hours and holidays are better.

Enough4me · 08/02/2025 07:55

Longer commute for job 2 and no WFH is the only negatives for that role?
Can you try 2 then switch back to 1 if you don't like 2?
