To ask for someone to talk me down from this pessimism that no technological development or 'leap forward' has not just created more problems than they were intended to solve?

Depends on how you define technological really.

In medicine, antibiotics, pasteurisation, vaccines are all scientific advances and have saved millions of lives

Modern hybrid strains of rice have massively increased yields and has helped reduce starvation throughout the world

Modern communications means that you can speak to someone on the other side of the world with ease.

It has a dark side and there are issues with too much time for children etc., but I don’t think we could live without it now, agree with previous poster.
