to ask how I access my eBay account?

MyMyMySharona · 07/02/2025 09:14

I really hope I'm not being entirely stupid.

I've used eBay for many years, and just recently have ordered and paid for various items.

When an item is received by the buyer, you are invited to give feedback for each seller.

I tried to do this, but the app is not letting me access eBay, as my device (apparently) is not up to the latest update.

I tried to access my eBay by just the website, and that won't let me in either 😱

Obviously I can't access ent to ask eBay themselves to assist me.

So Aibu to now believe, I'd have to purchase a new iPhone that would allow me to upgrade the app's requirements?

Please be kind, I don't think im a stupid person, but I do have a heavy load on in the emotional/mental dept, and feel a bit vulnerable?

Any help much appreciated, but plain language please, as im not techy.

Thank you 🙏🏻

More information needed. What si the problem when you access via a website? What does it say is wrong?

Doggymummar · 07/02/2025 09:30

I have an old tablet that doesn't support the latest versions. If you use eBay a lot I guess you will need to upgrade, it is infrequent could you go to a library?

MyMyMySharona · 08/02/2025 07:32

Thanks to the responders.

I use eBay very frequently.

Whilst I could kinda understand why the app wouldn't allow me (said I needed an upgrade to ios17 or above)) in, I felt sure
that I could access my eBay account via the website on my iPhone.

However, despite many attempts, I can NOT open the site without it taking me to the app, and of course the app can't be accessed.

It's so frustrating, coz I've bought several items from sellers on eBay, and im getting "reminders" that I should be leaving feedback on the transaction.

I've only got a certain window to do this, before the opportunity ends.

The upshot of that is, it'll go against me (I'm told( if I don't leave feedback.

So as far as I know, I'm gonna have to buy a later iPhone so I can continue to use eBay for any reason.

I was just hoping there was a workaround that I could use, in order for me to use eBay without the app.

Uninstall the app? Then you should be able to open it on the web?

youngestisapsycho · 08/02/2025 08:02

Yes, delete the app then you will stay on the website.

Scentsitive · 08/02/2025 08:04

You don't need an iPhone. Buy a cheap tablet (or a cheap phone) instead. Mine cost £150 and works just fine.

Scentsitive · 08/02/2025 08:05

(or delete app - even cheaper!)

Good luck, hope you get it done. Don't stress. 💐

Goinggold · 08/02/2025 08:05

Same thing happened to me this week, yes I deleted the app and can log in in a browser. You don't have to leave feedback though, it's your choice. There's no penalty.

MyMyMySharona · 08/02/2025 08:06

Thanks... I just went to delete the app, but it's said if I do that, all of the data will be removed.

Does that mean I'd lose all my buying history, and the credibility I've built up over many years?

I really feel caught between a rock and a hard place.

I hope that I'm not coming across as awkward ??

No, you're only deleting the app and the data bits , which is your username and password. . All your personal eBay data is within the eBay account so you will still have your purchase/selling history, feedback etc when you log in to it via the desktop site.

Ooooo, thanks for telling me there's no penalty for not leaving feedback, I was always under the impression that I would be considered a good buyer for contributing feedback, that has relieved me a lot.

If you delete the app the data on your phone will be gone but not on your account. Your account will be fine.

MyMyMySharona · 08/02/2025 08:13

Thanks to the two posters that have told me my eBay account will not lose its history by me deleting the app.

Thank you to all that have replied. 🙏🏻

I understand what it's like to be anxious about things like this. 💐

OpenFox · 08/02/2025 08:30

Remove the app.

Your data stays with your log in details, not the app.

You should then be able to log into your eBay account on a browser.

Apple products are notorious for not supporting updates on old models and encouraging buyers to get new phones! An excellent marketing ploy! I got rid of my iPad for this exact reason.

Thank you, it's good to know that I'm not alone in being wary of tech.

I mean, it's very useful and it makes my life easier (usually) but like any organisation, when something unexpected occurs, it throws me off.

Not sure if it's a lack of confidence, or me getting older and dafter 🤣🤣🤣

I can’t use the app on my iPhone and I’ve got all the latest updates. I go in through the website on my tablet or on the laptop as it’s easier. I wasn’t aware there was any penalty for not giving feedback!

Interesting viewpoint, when in fact Apple phones tend to be supported for longer than android phones.

Thank you.

I've bitten the bullet and removed the app.

Indeed, I've been able to access eBay, and leave feedback.

Also I'll be able to continue buying from eBay, as and when I need to.

I do agree that it's more than annoying that iPhone users are "encouraged" into buying a more recent phone, in order to support the iOS upgrades.

I've been using iPhones for such a long time, that I really don't want to have to get used to an alternative.

I know that means paying the price, but hey, that's the way it goes.

Think I'm too ancient now to learn another device 🥺

I do find Apple products best. My tablet is good but my iPad was much better and only became unworkable after 13 years! I'll probably get another one at some point.

A pp said there isn't a penalty.

I was told there was by a person who has used eBay for many more years than I, and as they are younger, and possibly more on the ball than I, I've always left feedback.

I usually choose a positive option, then if I've had a minor gripe, I've mentioned it in the description.

Then it gives the seller an opportunity to make a change.

That's absolute bullshit. I haven't been leaving feedback for years. I might get reminders or messages from the sellers asking for feedback, but it has in no way affected my rating as a buyer or ability to keep buying.

Just ignore any reminders and don't leave any feedback, rather than stressing and faffing about with settings/installing and uninstalling things, or worse, wasting money on a new device for something you don't have to do.

MyMyMySharona · 08/02/2025 09:00

Thanks to everyone about their viewpoints and advice to me, it's been so very useful.

As mentioned before, I've used an iPhone only, since I was encouraged to use a "smartphone".

I have a close relative who has always used Samsung (android) and hates the thought of iphones.

I can't diss Androids. asi have no experience of them.

It's tempting to go android because of the Apple 🍏 updates system, but I'm sticking with it, as my view is that it could turn out to be a bad decision to change, and I'd have to get used to an android.

I suppose whichever device one chooses, there will be pros and cons in either case.

Again, thank you to all.

Maybe I missed it but did you try to update the software on your phone? If you can then you would be able to get the latest version of the app.
