My boyfriend and I are trying to play a long weekend away from East London in March, Thursday - Sunday

We want to be in a beautiful country house style hotel with traditional/very tasteful furnishings, a great restaurant, and large grounds or directly next to an area of natural beauty so we can have lots of walks and hikes literally at our doorstep and not deal with the outside world.

This is for a big relationship milestone, so I'm looking for something super special that hasn't a whiff of conference centre, IKEA, or laminate flooring about it, iyswim.

Our max budget is probably about £650/night but would really prefer less if at all possible (and only that much if it's close enough to keep travel costs down)

Would love any recommendations!!! I have done lots of searches and everything seems to be very far away (a compromise we may be willing to make), out of budget, or just sort of average in quality.

Cliveden, Berkshire. Beautiful walks around the grounds, a maze, ‘that’ swimming pool, it backs onto the Thames where you can take a river boat and the house itself is stunning.

Yes Grantley Hall.

Ok if your coming up north grantley hall is just stunning never been as can't afford it but friends have been and drove past it all the time.
Cheaper but still stunning and more rural would be swinton park in masham lots of walks fabulous food and the best spa

Swinton Park is a serious contender. Love the look of the grounds and traditional decor!

Morston Hall in north Norfolk. You’re on the right side of London for the journey too.

ivegotthisyeah · 01/02/2025 10:38

@joysexreno swinton is really lovely and it fits with the vibe you are after. Opt for breakfast in bed one morning such a nice treat. Lots of walks on the estate and area masham is a lovely place for a mooch round too. It's rural though lots of nice pubs but not many shops

I think that this is what we are going to do! I like that they have an environmental plan and that it seems a bit more traditional, less polished than some of the others (even though they look amazing too!!!).

twoforwardoneback · 01/02/2025 11:41

Really recommend staying in one of the hives / tree houses at Callow Hall in Ashbourne (Derbeyshire Dales)

joysexreno · 01/02/2025 11:41

@ivegotthisyeah we are probably going to book in a couple's massage and maybe a couple more too!

Are there any other activities we should try to do? It looks like they offer all sorts

Looks like you've chosen but if not, Estelle Manor with a visit to the spa/bath house. It's LUSH.

joysexreno · 01/02/2025 12:00

Estelle Manor looks amazing! But actually we require a bath in the room, which they don't seem to offer.

Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey near Skipton, may take a bit more than 4 hours but it gives access to some fabulous countryside.
Victoria Hotel, Holkham Hall Norfolk also gives some fabulous walks and amazing wide beaches, a couple of hours from East London.
