Unreasonable how much some people hate young mothers?

Not sure what the point in this thread is, just venting really. Its been many years but I was a young mum (16) and in hindsight I can't believe the hard time random strangers would constantly give me! Being called names and having people stare at me everywhere I went. Nasty assumptions. When I bought my house after saving up for years for the deposit I was telling someone about my move and they start ranting about the council and free stuff, apparently the only reason young mums exist is for the free stuff 🙄

Now I'm an older mum to my second child and I can't believe the difference in how people treat you. If anyone relates perhaps this can be a support thread for young mums

Rant away OP, as a fellow LP aged 62. I save my rage for the many who have walked in our shoes but found a man to 'solve' it.

But I just quietly rant about it now, more or less....

How awful! You had a baby at 16 which is extremely brave and hard decision. I don’t think my sister experienced that. She had a baby at 16 but were in the USA. Maybe it’s just your poor UK weather to blame for such rudeness - to a child no less !

It used to be a lot worse. The papers used to blame single mothers for everything, they were the scourge of society. Teenage mothers got knocked up for a council house and benefits; everyone knew one.

Of course the fathers couldn't put a foot wrong.

YANBU. Though I don't think the hatred is confined to very young mothers, I had hateful comments made towards me and I had DDs at age 29 and 33.
