FIT test negative but referred to secondary care

Hello. Looking for reassurance!
I’ve noticed possible blood in stools (on and off.) I’ve had a FIT test and had results back as negative (even though I’m sure I’ve seen blood at times.) Despite negative result, I’m being referred to secondary care.
mode anyone know why this might be?

Well, presumably to look into it more fully because you've thought you've had blood in your stools? Is there something you have not mentioned in your post?

They will believe what you said and want to investigate further. They don’t just take the first test type as the answer to your symptoms if it shows it’s not one thing.

Don't worry they are just being thorough ♥️

My DH had a similar scenario last year. GP suspected diverticulosis and he was referred to secondary care even though the FIT test was negative. It was all OK in the end and reassuring that they wanted to investigate further.

Do you have other symptoms or test results that need investigating? I have bowel issues and now a diagnosed GI condition and I was referred to gastroenterology without even doing a FIT test, just based on my symptoms and blood tests. I’m guessing, especially depending on your age, they think it’s sensible you have a colonoscopy, which obviously needs to be done in hospital.

Thank you everyone. I’m reassured that it’s negative but I’ve got this jiggle in back of my head that I’ve seen what could possibly be blood in my stool. I was just wondering why they’d refer me to secondary care if negative.
