Argos click and collect only now!!

Another blow for people that aren't online.
Our Argos is now a click and collect only inside Sainsburys.
It's just a collection point now. You can't go in and order goods like you used too?
You just collect.
Presume it's the same everywhere?

The argos stores have closed.
It's now click and collect only. It's inside Sainsburys now for good.
No stand alone argos shops here.
One is now a pet food shop and the other is empty. Been closed and empty for ages now.

Argos's inside Sainburys still have the screens you can select products on and pay at a til. They just don't have seats you can sit on and Elizabeth Duke counters. The "shops" were just wasted space. Sometimes you have to go back later that day or the next day to collect, but you can order and pay in real life, it doesn't have to be online.

I wish they still did the specific item numbers you could look up, it's really annoying to find what you want online and then go into the store to use the screen and search all over again, especially if it's something technical where there are a lot of similar sounding products.

You don't even need to search for the item just put the product code in should be a 3 digit code slash 4 digit code on the top left hand corner of the product. You can take that code to the till or to the kiosk without even searching the item.

Alifetimeofdiagnoises · 27/01/2025 21:06

I really hope argos doesn’t go 😞 I really like it, often the toys the kids want there are the cheapest and easy to collect + I love the habitat stuff. & where else will I get my kids paddling pool when the sun comes out with 1 days notice?!

Are you sure you can't in store order? Ours is in a Sainsbury's but you can still order in store (as well as click and collect)

I will ask when I go to pick up said item soon.
When I ordered it it only gave me click and collect option and said it wouldn't be ready to collect from store today, but gave a time in tne next few days I could pick up.

Gone are the days of the catalogues and little Pencils lol.

That's because it won't be coming into the warehouse til then then it needs to be transferred into store ready for you to collect on that day.

ThoroughlyModernNotMillie · 27/01/2025 21:15

There's an Argos in my local Sainsbury's, I ordered something in there last week and collected it immediately, so they aren't all click and collect only.

So some items are ready in and some have to be bought in then?

This has been normal for Argos long before they shut their stand alone stores. It's not because you can't order in store it's because they don't hold all stock.

Splattsagain · 27/01/2025 21:25

I've ordered something today from Argos - I'm picking it up tomorrow from my local Sainsburys as I'm not in a rush, but there are several Sainsburys in the area where I could have picked it up immediately. AFAIK the larger stores still have a warehouse for items in the same way the old standalone Argos stores did.

They won't have the space to store everything in the catalogue inside a Sainsbury's, obviously some stuff will have to be sent from the central warehouses.

But that doesn't mean you can't purchase items instore though?

You can still go in and order from one of the screens or at the till and you can still receive the item immediately (if it's in stock).

ToKittyornottoKitty · 27/01/2025 21:29

Mines a tiny counter in a sainsburys but you can still order in store, there’s a screen to use the online catalogue and a till. So it’s not all Argos branches

Drfosters · 27/01/2025 21:29

To be fair you can order on your phone in about 1 minute to collect. Sometimes it is ready immediately but sometimes I have to wait until they have delivery later in the day. I appreciate not everyone has a smartphone but I expect a lot of their core demographic has and I presume they expect people without one to do on a computer or ask sometime to help place the order.

Puppydog83 · 27/01/2025 21:32

PassingStranger · 27/01/2025 21:17

Yeah, even smaller stores hold a little stock but what is happening a lot atm is when you order something and it's in another store within the same area it is then transferred out and delivered to your local store, they are trialling a lot of options atm I think.
But some items haven't come into the main warehouse so that's why the longer wait.
A lot of stuff comes straight from manufacturers too hence being delivered by royal mail/ dpd etc.

The stockrooms at these Store In Stores are absolutely tiny. Hence the click and collect. But they do still hold SOME stock. Regularly on my till our massive stockroom didn't have something that that the tiny little local SIS had.

Yes. Some stuff they will keep and will be there immediately. Some you might have to wait until the next day for.
I live virtually next door to Sainsbury’s so I mostly order it on my phone from home a d it’s ready by the time I’ve walked there.

Some items are held in stock in store, some are available for click and collect and some are home delivery only. It's always been like that except Argos within Sainsbury's have less storage space so have less in stock.

But that would have been the case even if you’d ordered the item in store?

i am not sure what option you want to have but don’t any more, as the below options are available to me:

option 1-order online, click and collect to any local store (some standalone, some inside a Sainsbury’s)

option 2- order in store on screen, collect immediately if they have in stock, or it will give me a date for collection if not in stock

option 3-order online for delivery

option 4- order in store on screen for delivery (if they do not have in stock and I don’t want to come back to collect).

what is it that you want to do?

They do ..if you search the code (502/6845) on the site, it will bring you to this exact product.

Puppydog83 · 27/01/2025 20:52

I worked at Argos whilst it was still Argos and the difference working under Sainsburys was shocking.

I think a lot of stand alone stores will be going sadly once all the leases are up.

There's been so many changes lately, even since I left there's been more announcements to my now ex colleagues.

It will be really sad to lose Argos from the high st.

Are argos suffering because of amazon?

mitogoshigg · 27/01/2025 22:14

You can order in stores via a tablet or staff will help you if you need assistance. Some things are in stock but they are limited. Other things arrive same day or next day

mitogoshigg · 27/01/2025 22:18

@PassingStranger I'm sure they are, they don't have the range and delivery wasn't fast enough, they have upped their game but competing will rely on enough of us wanting to shop from a trusted brand

Iloveyoubut · 27/01/2025 22:29

I know this has nothing to do with anything but I just got such a surge of nostalgia there. I remember sitting on the couch with my first boyfriend (he was quite the bad boy with his leather jacket, long hair and his nose pierced, this was the 80s but he was lovley) and we used to sit for hours going through the Argos catalogue saying what bed would you get? What couch? What earrings? What Roy do you wish you for at Christmas? …. On and on 😂 honestly, we’d sit and go through that catalogue picking our favourite things and discussing the pros and and cons of it all for hours … we looked like Sid and Nancy but it was so innocent… sorry for derailing I just had to write that down, what a lovely daft time, I miss that Argos catalogue!

I thought they still did. The latest order i made online quoted the item number.

Talkingfrog · 28/01/2025 00:47

PassingStranger · 27/01/2025 21:17

So some items are ready in and some have to be bought in then?

Yes. Some items are held in store. Some items may be in a local warehouse and need to be transferred. Not sure if they also transfer between stores or not. I have two stores a similar distance away, both inside sainsburys, so if not in stock in one, I will look in the other. Sometimes items are in stock, other times available for collection from 10.00 or 16.00 the next day, other times a few days. Depends on the item and stock levels.
