To cancel my milk delivery

milksnatcher9 · 27/01/2025 17:03

We get milk delivered. It's not the cheapest, but it's convenient & I like supporting the local milkmen.

But we keep getting our milk pinched. Sometimes only one bottle, sometimes all three.

At first I thought it was opportunists, but neighbours video showed what looks like the same person (well, with the same dog!) actively walking up to our house, taking the milk and going back the way they came.

We have a ring doorbell which is useless as it either doesn't show his face, or records nothing. Annoying it detects movement and lights up (we can see this from neighbours camera) but doesn't record (despite going off for no reason during the day).

The house is 6ft from the path and has a drive/small garden, but no gate as we're always driving in and out.

Is there anything I can do about this or should I just cancel milk deliveries completely?

You could put a little sign up stating "smile, you're in camera"…?

Peachy2005 · 27/01/2025 17:08

If the milkman put it in a different place…is there a side passage, or inside a porch, would it make any difference to ring doorbell visibility? Could you get a cooler or delivery box so it’s not as visible? If no options, suppose you will have to cancel it 😥

Sinkintotheswamp · 27/01/2025 17:09

I'd put a message up actually.

Mine has never been stolen, but it's not visible and easily hidden behind a shrub.

MummytoE · 27/01/2025 17:11

I would pull an all nighter and as thief approaches door, quickly open it and catch them red handed.

Womanofcustard · 27/01/2025 17:12

Can you get a light with a motion sensor? And add to it the sign, ‘Smile, you’re on camera’.
Lockable box?
Have you spoken to the delivery company?
Or put the delivery in abeyance for a week or two?
Temporary gate?

MummytoE · 27/01/2025 17:13

Oh or sneak out put heavy dose laxatives in the milk and put it back for thief to take!

ERthree · 27/01/2025 17:24

You what time this thief steals your milk, open the window and tell him you are reporting him to the Police. Or do what i would do and tell him to Fuck off, take a photo and stick it on the local FB page.

milksnatcher9 · 27/01/2025 17:35

The security light comes on, but doesn't activate the camera and makes it even easier to see/pinch the milk! He'll know that there may be filming because of the ring doorbell, but that's not stopped him yet.

It's not every night, and happens between 4-645am, so I'm not sure I'm up to staying up, even though I really want to.

I've contacted the milk company but still waiting for them to get back to me.

Put a carefully edited photo on the local pages asking if anyone recognises the dog

Hayley1256 · 27/01/2025 17:37

I'd follow him back to his house and ask for payment of the milk

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/01/2025 17:40

A little cupboard with a Yale lock, so milkman puts the milk in and shuts the door, wich locks automatically.

I know someone who sold milk from a cupboard at the end of his line, with a jamjar for money. He had a camera mounted inside the cupboard so it had a full facial view of anyone who took milk

TartanMammy · 27/01/2025 17:41

Shocking, I'd be fuming!

Get a small storage box with a combination padlock. Give the delivery company the code.

nabanna · 27/01/2025 17:41

Post a cropped screen grab on local Facebook group, asking if anyone recognises the dog as it has been wandering about at night and you are worried about it.?.
That way others might draw the milk thiefs attention to the post and he might be put off.

CountingDownToSummer · 27/01/2025 17:44

If the thief arrives at the same time daily id be waiting for them and open the door when they have the milk in their hands

Pause your milk delivery for a week. Have a few bottles of milk 'spare' and doctor them. Syringe full of something horrible but not dangerous should make them think twice. After they have taken a bottle, the next day leave a note with another bottle inviting them to go ahead and take another. Only this time show a picture of you topping the bottle up with your own urine.

My guess is his cornflakes tasted a bit funny the day before and he doesnt want another bottle of your piss.

N.b doesnt have to be piss. It can be anything that makes it taste horrible

I am vindictive. TBH i would just catch the person and deal with it that way if it were me.

I wonder if the OP is up to rigging up a motion detector to a hosepipe? Would be interesting
