Things to do in Chester

Never been and wondered if it's a worthwhile place to spend a few days with the kids. Currently planning on taking the kids to the zoo but it's a fair drive from us so I wondered if it would be worth booking an air b&b and exploring the area a bit more. Dc are primary age and toddler.

We did an over night stop in Chester a couple of years ago. We went to the zoo and enjoyed the walk around the city walls and the Roman amphitheatre as well as the nearby gardens with the miniature railway for the kids.
It's quite a pretty place and we found some lovely spots for lunch/dinner with our then 2 year old (The Hickory Smokehouse was awesome!)

Bewilderwood is fairly close if you have transport. Beeston castle too.

There's loads to do in Chester. There's a lot of child friendly activities around the Roman history led by actors dressed liked centurions. There's museums, great theatres and independent cinemas, lots of independent carafes, walking around the walls, the rows are quite interesting although yours may be too small for all that.
Head over to Parkgate for ice creams or go on the river. I think they still have boats in the summer but someone might have more recent information.
It's not great for shopping any more. Cheshire Oaks seems to have killed that. If it's a wet day Blue Planet is good but heaving at half term

We had a long weekend in Chester and enjoyed it. The park is great, and there's also the Ice Cream Farm if you are ok with another drive. Nice coffee shops and places to eat.

*cafes not carafes

I was really impressed with the zoo, can also recommend Bewilderwood and The Crocky Trail

Another vote for the Zoo, Bewilderwood and the Crocky trail.
The ice cream farm was always a hit.
