Reporting healthcare worker to GP practice manager

AIBU to report this to the practice manager of my DMs GP surgery? DM went in for her yearly asthma review. It’s meant to be a short appointment to discuss inhaler technique, symptoms, whether current meds are working etc. I have one a year myself to I know how they go. DM was seen by a man who said he had been at the surgery for the last 3 months. He seems to have asked DM various questions to establish a bit of a rapport but DM then said it became uncomfortable for her. Out of nowhere towards the end of the appointment he said ‘my wife has just left me’. DM didn’t know what to say. He also described her as ‘like a recycled teenager’ when referring to her age and appearance. It all just made her feel very odd. She is reluctant to discuss further with the surgery as she doesn’t want him to get into trouble - but he really shouldn’t be divulging his personal information like that in a professional capacity. It’s awful that his wife has left him and maybe he shouldn’t be at work right now. I would contact the surgery both out of concern for patients and for him. AIBU?

Please do. The consequences can be quite far reaching of this kind of emotional oversharing. Health care professionals are human, but they can’t lean on their patients for support. Help him find better support by reporting it before it impacts someone badly.

Thankyou. This is exactly my thought. No doubt he will be working with some vulnerable people that just can’t take that on. My DM lost my DF just under a year ago and can’t really take on anyone else’s pain right now.

Reported. The Practice manager was very appreciative of the call and will be dealing with it going forward.
