Am I being ridiculous?

I was drinking a glass of water and wasn’t watching what I was doing. I am quite sure a drop or two went on the wire of my iPhone charger. DH has plugged it in without knowing to charge his phone and it’s working fine but I am in my own head worrying it’s going to cause a fire, even though it’s unplugged now. I don’t even know how that could happen logically.

AIBU?

Please be kind, I am having support for PPA.

It’s fine, if the water had actually got into the phone you’d get a notification. I tried to charge once when I had been out in the rain and it wouldn’t charge as it detected water.

Don't worry OP, it'll be fine. It would be different perhaps if you'd dropped the end of the lead into a glass of water, but a few drops on the lead won't do any harm, and certainly won't cause a fire.

If it's unplugged then it's vanishingly unlikely that anything could happen.

I know, it’s more that DH plugged it in after it was maybe a bit damp

If it’s an I-phone it would have refused to charge and said that moisture was detected.

similarminimer · 27/01/2025 13:48

It is 💯 not going to cause a fire

ItGhoul · 27/01/2025 14:02

There is absolutely no way on earth that a few drops of water on the wire of a phone charger will cause a fire.

A few drops of water on the wire of a charger doesn't make the plug 'a bit damp'. You're looking for a problem that doesn't exist and you know it's irrational.
