To be annoyed about this?

I live in a new build and behind it is a field and there was lots of nice small trees and things like that that were growing right behind and over my fence. Admittedly they needed a cut back but they have all been removed completely. I’m not happy as it removes my privacy and also makes it easier for someone to scale the fence which scares me, being alone. Aibu?

If it wasn't your land you don't get to say what happens with it. Sorry Op.

PizzaPunk · 25/01/2025 23:42

Is the field being cleared for more new builds?

MugsyBalonz · 25/01/2025 23:43

If it's not within the boundary of your property then you can't control what happens to it. Why not plant your own within your fence line?

StormingNorman · 25/01/2025 23:45

It’s not your land and they’re not your trees so YABU to be annoyed about it. If the trees were a major part of your decision-making you would have need to make sure they were covered by a tree protection order.

Do you have a garden? If so, it's fun to grow your own trees, conifers are quick growing and provide privacy.

WeeOrcadian · 26/01/2025 00:14

Who owns the land? Presumably not you?

YANBU to be annoyed about it but you can't control what someone else does on land they own

Grow your own trees - problem solved

Risheth · 26/01/2025 00:16

Of course you’re not being unreasonable to be sorry the trees are gone, but surely you grasp that if it’s not your land, you don’t get a say in tree maintenance in it, assuming NO TPOs?

As pps said, focus on your own garden. Plant quick-growing trees and shrubs against your back boundary, and a prickly climber if you want to deter someone climbing your fence.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/01/2025 07:28

You can be annoyed about absolutely anything you like! I would be annoyed too, but there's nothing you can do about it apart from planting in your own garden.
