Next UK scam re free home delivery?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/01/2025 16:13

Today, I placed an order on the Next UK website. The website offered this code for free home delivery: A154ALRTF4

There was nowhere at the checkout to enter it, so I contacted them through live chat before placing the order. The live chat advisor immediately apologised and offered a £5 voucher (as though she/he was fully aware the code could not be used). When I asked for confirmation of where to use the code, I was told it could be entered after placing the order. This was not true - there was no option to enter the code after I placed the order.

No £5 e-voucher has arrived via email either. It feels like this is a deliberate "glitch" which relies on customers not wanting to spend extra time/effort chasing this up. Just thought I'd see if others have experienced similar?

AIBU - You are the only person to experience this.
YANBU - I have experienced this too!

I can't read all the messages but I dont think it's very likely that Next have set up a discount code scam

Cock ups happen all the time, maybe the chat person is a bit rubbish at their job, maybe the email is in your junk. Have you followed up?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/01/2025 16:32

It just seemed weird how quickly the £5 was offered, without even explaining where the code should be entered. Yes, I've emailed to complain and yes, have also checked junk folder - nothing there.

You use the code before you pay, not after. I don’t think she was very clear about that, but there’s never a code for after the order is complete.

SwerveCity · 25/01/2025 16:57

I’ve had similar with Next, where you have to click to redeem it before you actually order. Mine was when I hadn’t shopped with them in aaaages and got a “have £10 off your next order” so I redeemed it, ordered item but never automatically received any discount until I chased it myself through customer services.
I really think they hope the majority of people either won’t notice or won’t be bothered with the hassle.

I agree but I searched everywhere on all pages leading up to and during the checkout process and there was definitely nowhere to type the code.

Next do or used to do a soft search on you when you buy ( buy not credit) avoided them since they did it to me.

What do you mean by a soft search?

I saw the words "soft search" when looking for the discount code box but assumed it applied only to buying on credit. Interesting to hear that's not the case.

Search goes on your credit file. I got it once maybe 15 years ago and was annoyed. Think I forgot about this and several years later, bought something else and they did it again.

Just found this - 10 years old but sounds like still relevant.

Edited

Wow, that's shit. I've used next online a few times over the years but managed to get a mortgage last year so obviously hasn't affected me - but that's very frustrating to read

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/01/2025 20:58

Surprise, surprise, the £5 e-voucher still hasn't arrived (including junk folder).

I've had this offer on my Next account. It pops up, says to click and copy the code. I click it and it takes me to an error page. So clearly they know there's a glitch. It's been going on for me since way before Xmas

I knew it wouldn't just be me.

That's really annoying and I remember seeing a message once to say I could add to my order within an hour. I added to the order as I had forgotten something basic that was needed. Ended up paying deliver again so I think it was actually only for account holders. I have since opened an account and pay something like £21 for delivery for the year. Well worth it as I buy a lot for the kids and in sales . Delivery is so fast too.

UPDATE:

I complained about the issue with not being able to enter the code and that also the promised £5 did not arrive. Next is still dodging the issue. They have now issued a £5 voucher but I've replied to say that this doesn't address my complaint. The live chat advisor said I could use the code after placing the order but that was not true. I want them to refund the delivery charge. It seems like a small issue but it really does seem like a scam and they know it.

I just received the Free Delivery code from Next just now! Very simliar alpha numeric. Need some post Easter Break school essentials. Spent a good 10 minutes searching high and low for a place to input the code! Cannot find anywhere to input the code.... Thanks for saving me the rest of the day.
