AIBU in deleting instagram without telling my friends?

Instagram has put me in a pretty bad head space so I decided to delete my account today, however I have work friends and neighbours who follow me on instagram and I’m worried people will think I’ve blocked them and or rude for ignoring them. It’s just I don’t want to go through my follow list telling them I’m deleting Instagram.

Am I being unreasonable in deleting Instagram without telling people or announcing it on my story?

If they ask just tell them you've deleted it.

Alabas · 23/01/2025 18:47

They might not notice! I wouldn’t worry about it, just say if they ask you.

leafydog · 23/01/2025 18:48

I would just put a post or story up for 24hrs and say you're going offline. People can take these things very personally!

This is a good idea, it won’t come across as attention seeking tho?

No I’d not put a story up I’d just delete it - i actually have just deleted it a few weeks ago and am so happy it’s gone

Goodafternoonmillie · 23/01/2025 19:23

Putting a story up in my opinion is a bit unnecessary. Just delete it and see who notices/asks and you can then say you are having a break and you deleted the app. I delete mine all the time and only download once a month or so to kind of check in and see what everyones been upto.
one day I will delete it forever 🤣

I deleted my Facebook and someone contacted my mum asking what had happened. I hadn't spoken to this person in any capacity for around 4 years at that point.

Utterly baffling and I despise how people seem to think they have a right to know what you are doing/have access to you.

I have deleted everything now and don't regret it at all. MN is my only social media type outlet.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/01/2025 19:36

I would just delete it. Don’t put a story up, you’ll get a barrage of messages saying ‘You ok?’ ‘Has something happened? Has someone upset you? Do you want to chat?

I follow about 200 people on Instagram. If one of them drops off the radar, I won't even notice. My aunt and my mum are on IG, I hardly ever see their posts in my feed at all. Many people follow thousands of accounts. I think it's a big stretch to think they will noticed let alone care.

Just do an irish goodbye/french exit

Yes it will 🙈

DreamW3aver · 23/01/2025 19:46

Imo the fact that you are asking this is a worrying sign. Thinking you need to announce youre no longer going to be using a social media platform isnt necessary

If your friends wonder why you aren't posting won't they message to see how you are?

Spudthespanner · 23/01/2025 19:47

Total non event. Leave it or don't leave it and no one will be fussed either way.

X123x321X · 01/01/2026 07:03

Several of my FB friends have left. I didn't even notice at the time.

myglowupera · 01/01/2026 07:10

I really want to delete my Facebook account. Does anyone know if it’s an easy process to download all of your FB data before you delete your account?

heartsinvisiblefury · 01/01/2026 07:28

Just leave. No one actually cares. It’s social media not life.
