I had an mri Wednesday the results came back Thursday, was due to see consultant on Wednesday this week and he's calling me at 7 pm tonight, been going out of my mind all day, i can't understand why he would call ahead unless time was key

My guess - as someone who has lots of scans - is that there is some on the scan they want to double check, which means they want to book you in for something else possibly while they have you physically there on Wednesday. But the consultant wants to set it up with you in case you have questions rather than leaving it to the secretary who isn’t allowed to answer medical questions.

Was there something specific you were having investigated? I can only speak from my own experience, but I have cancer and when it flagged up, I had a full body CT scan, more focused MRI, and an ultrasound and fine needle biopsy all in quick succession (like within a week ish).

Whatever the reason is I would be as reassured as you can be that you seem to have a great doctor who is on top of things. The worst thing was waiting around and not knowing what was going to happen next. But sounds like they are organised and considerate of keeping you well informed, which is really good (might not feel like right now though).

Funnily enough a consultant booked me in for an MRI today. He said the results are immediate so he'd be straight on the phone if there was anything concerning, otherwise it'd take days to weeks. I had the same last week with a CT. So I'd say if there was anything alarming you would have had a call well before now.

Cancer a few markers in my blood that could've been meant either lupus or cancer and left side of pelvic pain. I had a scan in December the source system one over and they couldn't find the other one on an ultrasound

Waiting is the worst all you can do is distraction something cheesy on the TV can do the trick

Ella31 · 20/01/2025 17:06

Waiting is the worst part. Didn't want to read and run but hope you are ok. Xx

TheWonderhorse · 20/01/2025 18:12

Hope all is well for you OP. Once you know you can deal with it. Hang in there 💪

Jerabilis · 20/01/2025 18:15

I hope all is well but have you tried looking on the NHS app?

My MRI results appeared on there before I had an appointment and thanks to Google i was able to go in with a pretty good idea of what they'd found

scorpiogirly · 20/01/2025 18:21

Like a previous poster said, I think you would have been contacted by now. Hope all goes okay.

Toria33 · 20/01/2025 18:25

ListenDontJudge · 20/01/2025 20:04

Hope all OK.

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 20/01/2025 20:29

I hope you’ve had your phone call and it went ok. Sending positive thoughts your way xx

fourelementary · 20/01/2025 20:31

Now we are all waiting with you @Toria33 for your update… it sounds like your dr is thorough at least but IME extra attention from anyone in the NHS tends not to be good… so hope you can let us know how you got on.

DragonBalls · 20/01/2025 20:41

I hope it has gone ok for you this evening OP.

Just to mention for others that might be in this situation. I’m a NHS consultant and I often call people up if the scan is normal to ease their anxiety and sometimes say that they don’t need follow-up. Obivously I don’t tell them in advance I might do this.

So you really can’t tell what kind of news an unexpected phone call might bring.

Toria33 · 21/01/2025 08:28

Ok so its not nothing but its not near as bad i was thinking. Really bad adenomyosis, csection isn't healing great (feathering was mentioned) and an adhesion. and apparently i have done something to my lower spine possible from a fall i had a while ago and he want to refer me to spinal for a focused scan

I do need coil fitting under consultant due to csection scar feathering, to help with the pain the adenomyosis causes
