That friend is in a huff?

DD8 is very good at cross country running and a friend of mine found out that we’d be doing the same race as her DD8 next weekend. Although us mums are friends, the girls are not although no bad blood, just nothing much in common. She asked me if my DD would run with hers in the race to encourage her because she lacks confidence etc and I politely said no as my DD was taking it seriously. I did say that we could arrange to meet in the week and they could run together for practice but she said she’s too busy in the week. AIBU to have said no?

Of course not.
It's a race.
Her request was silly.

Not unreasonable at all, if it’s a competitive race, your daughter needs to concentrate on her own run.

No not at all. Would be different if they were mates and your DD wanted to run with her kid but she's not so why try and force her to? Too many women and girls do things they don't want to do to "Be Kind" so it's great that you are sticking up for your daughter. Plus, you offered her a practice run and she said no. Fuck her.
