Vinted - what a joke

Randomworkmoan · 18/01/2025 10:20

Did a clear out over the last week. I had seen the Vinted ads so said I would give it a go. Last night I put up about 5 dresses, worn but perfect, a pair of Levis dh no longer wears and 3 shirts.

The 3 shirts were new with tags, 2 were the exact same but different colours, of the 2 the same one was open and on a hanger and the other folded as it had arrived (online order). When they came dh opened one, tried it on and it didn't fit hence why he didn't open the other. He did not return them because they were on sale from MandM, whose returns are just not worth the postage for shirts that were not expensive.

So I popped all up, sold the jeans withinabpit 10 minutes and then got a message to say I was permanently banned because of the shirt, they attached the photo of the folded shirt.

I was cross, I clicked appeal and messaged to say exactly what I said here and that the shirt is absolutely not counterfeit etc etc and that their customer service and an outright permanent ban is a joke. I asked if I should still honour the jeans sale as I had told the buyer I would post Tuesday morning.

Anyway, I got another message this morning, not answering my question about the jeans, which I suppose is an answer in itself, to say that I am permanently banned. I can't buy either. I wouldn't mind but I have the receipts from the shirts when they were bought and I had them up for €8, so hardly a criminal mastermind. Very frustrating.

Anyway, their customer service is shocking. It's all computer says no, I understand them not wanting people selling actual counterfeit products but I had the receipts as proof of purchase.

Don't bother with Vinted or at least be careful with selling new items (even though they have a new with tags option 😡)

I've never had an issue.

Where2GoNext · 18/01/2025 10:23

My friend got banned for the same reason, she tried appealing but also got told she'd been banned permanently.

Brefugee · 18/01/2025 10:25

the young people i know use Vinted a lot and have never had an issue.
I bought 1 thing and was scammed (to which Vinted just shrugged even though i only wanted to point out how the scam worked)

but they are well known for being harsh on buyers, and wanting detailed photos, so .. meh

That exactly what happened, I bet they are the same stock replies

Vinted customer service is terrible, I bought a dress that was new with tags, sent clearly worn with what appeared to be blood staining on it so obviously mis-sold but I had to pay to return it! I also reported someone who was selling fake Charlotte Tilbury make up and Vinted replied saying they had investigated but found no issue - case closed 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Barrenfieldoffucks · 18/01/2025 10:53

I think they're clamping down hard on counterfeits, if you read the rules first it tells you... likewise normally when you try to list something branded it tells you what photos you have to have up before it will approve them. If you ignore that and are a new seller I can see why they'd just jump to ban. There are often new users with no feedback listing branded items for cheap but it is a scam, they're either using stock photos or fakes.

Just create a new email and do it properly. In a couple of years' of Vinted I've had loads of very successful purchases and sales with no issues.

BridgetRandomfuck · 18/01/2025 10:55

I tried to sell a pair of Prada shoes on Vinted and had the listing removed as they said they were counterfeit (they definitely were not!) I appealed and they asked for a lot of close-up photos, and they still concluded they were counterfeit! They didn’t ban me, however (presumably because I have a lot of good reviews), but it was incredibly frustrating, I assume they just have an AI-type thing doing the ‘verification’. Anyway, I sold them on EBay, no problem! So I would recommend trying EBay.

PiggyPigalle · 18/01/2025 11:01

They're basically accusing innocent people of shoplifting.
Also I wouldn't send the jeans. Wouldn't give Vinted a penny after that. Tell the customer you've been banned, so no sale.

UndermyShoeJoe · 18/01/2025 11:01

for things like branded tops they want photos of all the labels including care instructions.

JaneBoleynViscountessRochford · 18/01/2025 11:02

There is zero customer service on Vinted, they never answer questions and you can’t speak to anyone. I love the platform but they do fall down on service.

SpunkyCritic · 18/01/2025 11:05

Someone marked an item as new, then had photos of her wearing it at a party.
I reported it, but it wasn't upheld!

I just keep hearing more and more bad things about their customer service.

Vinted is an absolute PITA when it goes wrong. It’s the absolute pits but I do seem to eventually get my money back - it might be because I am very careful with what I buy and so I’ve only had two problems that require refunds.

They certainly didn’t used to care about counterfeits and misdescribing stuff so that’s new. I used to report generic grip socks labelled as a bit brand name that I buy and my reports were always denied.

Ariela · 18/01/2025 11:18

I keep getting emails to sell for free on eBay so that might be an option?

heyhopotato · 18/01/2025 11:28

A counterfeit of MandM? I'm not even sure what that would be. It's a budget shop like Bon Marche isn't it?

That's sort of it felt!

I won't send the jeans but I can't even message the buyer now which is a pity

Thank you for that, I might contact them just to even show that they are far too quick to ban people

M and M Direct - they sell brand names such as Converse, Berghaus, Vans etc.

Absolutely. I mean they do sell some brands but this was a Brave Soul Shirt, surely there is no such thing as counterfeit brands like that. If you are selling counterfeit you are going higher end than that!

This happened to a friend of mine. Went on to sell a pair of new boots from Next. Got banned for life as they were suspected counterfeit. From Next?

However I have bought and sold over 800 items and never had an issue personally. Their customer service are basically bots. Not good.

eBay is much better in your circumstances (since this has now happened) it's free to sell clothes now and less people after a bargain.

With Vinted, unfortunately many scammers sell new counterfeit items and that's what they are trying to cut down on. If you sell a few pre loved items first and have some reviews before selling new items this wouldn't happen but I realise it's too late in your case. I'm afraid scammers have ruined it for genuine sellers.

LyricalGangsta · 18/01/2025 14:21

I bought a jumper for DS for Christmas (designer, expensive so he was happy with it being second hand) and I specifically asked the seller was it definitely genuine as I had no experience of this brand.
He assured me it was.
Immediately I picked it up I could tell it was counterfeit. A quick google confirmed my suspicions.
I requested a return and an option was that I believed was counterfeit and he issued me a refund and I returned it.
He then relisted it.
If they are hot on not allowing people to sell fakes I don't know how I managed to report it as such and he relisted it?

I know I won't be bothering with Vinted again personally
I got my money back but it was my first time and it's just put me off.

Use eBay, vinted really isn't great.

This is what I’ve read on here before - you need to email legal to get any kind of proper response.

Randomworkmoan · 18/01/2025 17:14

Thank you for the Ebay suggestions, I may try there. I had never used Vinted but their ads seem to be everywhere at the moment so thought I would give it a shot.

I will still email though, not so much that I want to use them anymore, more to say a permanent ban without even asking any questions or leaving the option to buy seems ridiculous. It's really infuriating.

This happened to me...so frustrating as I had about 80 items listed!!

After a few months of my ban, I tried to set up a brand new account..different email, phone number username, bank account etc...but when I tried to register, it still said I'm banned. Could this be because of the IP address?
