To quit my full time job and go contract/freelancer?

Hello!

Would love some thoughts/advice.

Currently employed, earning mid £40ks. Technically I'm middle management, but lots of change recently due to some senior/c level management swap around, which has had a subtle but, in my opinion, important change to my role.

It essentially makes my role very operational, less creative/strategic. Seems to stifle my own personal development a bit too - despite me saying I'd like to progress almost feels more micromanaged/admin heavy. Tracking team KPIs etc etc.

I've had the opportunity to go into a contracting role, better money, higher risk, which I wouldn't have considering 6 months ago but given the changes and the lack of progression opportunities feels like a better option now? I like the idea of the flexibility and working more on my own terms too.

Anyone else made the jump? Was it the right decision?

I'm having a very similar experience just now and considering leaving my job amd going into contracting. Did you make the move?

@Payitforward55 i haven’t yet. Mostly because of the company that asked me to work with them. Not quite ready, no solid offer on the table. They seem poorly managed tbh. Still considering it if something else came up.

I'm considering handing in my notice and being ready when something comes up. I've spoken to a recruiter and they have roles but need someone to be ready to start. Its a bit scary but fortune favours the brave
