ASD child SO disregulated since return to school

My almost 5yr old has a diagnosis of ASD, presents strongly with ADHD but too young to be formally diagnosed with this too. Has EHCP and 1:1 in school. Since returning to school from the Christmas holidays he has been wildly disregulated in school, running constantly, shouting, behaviours that are reminiscent of when he started school in September. Also much more challenging at home recently.

Fellow ASD parents or anyone with experience, what could be causing this sudden weeks of disregulation? Is this how it usually goes with ASD, you think you’ve turned a corner behaviour wise and then it’s back to square one again? Advice appreciated! Thanks!

When did you get the EHCP?

Sounds like you might need an emergency annual review.

Return to school and the week before breaking up for a holiday is always challenging.

This. My dd is now 18 and it’s still the same, change in routine when they break up, followed by another change when they go back. Christmas is probably the worst tbh, so much goes on during the run up, it’s like shaking up a bottle of fizz and eventually unscrewing the cap 😬

My son always takes a couple weeks to adjust back after a holiday. Don't panic just yet x
