A question if your child receives HRM for DLA

Posting for traffic, sorry!

I wonder if anyone can help me. What evidence have you provided in order to support overnight care? DC isn’t known to a sleep clinic nor have they been referred to one so I’m not sure what other type of report written by a healthcare professional can back up what I say.

Can anyone help and let me know what reports (if any) they used to support their claim please? Thank you

A sleep diary filled out by you might help, I think they do one online that you can send into the dla.

Your word in a sleep diary, as well as evidence of prescribed medication and the doctors notes regarding a discussion about eratic sleep.

TheSilentSister · 13/01/2025 20:55

Just your own experience of their sleep. I got HRC just by stating my DCs routine. No medical backup. Woke several times a night for an hour at a time. It was a hellish time.

x2boys · 13/01/2025 20:58

Do you mean HRC or HRM because you only need to prove overnight care for HRC

DLAA · 13/01/2025 21:07

Thank you all. I’ll do a sleep diary and try to add as much detail as possible. They’re not on any medication overnight but rarely sleep so want to document that as clear as possible.

@x2boys yep sorry I meant HRC and not HRM!

In that case whilst a sleep diary may help it will go very much on your word. How old is your child ?
Are they in an educational setting does lack of sleep mean they are very tired in nursery/ school ,because that can back up the claim

Strawbzz · 13/01/2025 21:17

Nothing, only send her ehcp and was awarded HRC. No sleep diary no medication..

TheSilentSister · 25/01/2025 21:39

My DS was diagnosed ASD at 5. No additional support at school because he was high functioning. Got HRC til now, 16. No reports, just my word.

Pigeonqueen · 25/01/2025 21:54

We just filled in the form with a detailed description of what Ds now aged 12 is like at night (absolute nightmare, gets up every 3 hours and has done since he was 2, needs melatonin, sleepwalks, tries to jump down whole staircase etc). Provided ehcp. He’s at complex needs school. We’ve had high rate care since we first applied for dla for him aged 2.5, renewed a year ago till he’s 16 when he’ll switch to PIP.

I just wrote down what our nights were like. I got HRC for DS before diagnosis and medication and continue to get it after the review with a diagnosis and meds.
