MIL Kissing MY Baby’s Bum?????

I went to my parents in laws house this weekend and when I was changing my 10 month old sons nappy, both my parents in law came rushing over leaning over LO and start stroking his bum, my MIL then proceeds to kiss his bum and tickled his nipples when I was changing his clothes. Whenever my partner holds LO she constantly sniffs his thighs/bum (clothed) saying mmmm and when she holds LO she will swing him to FIL so he can smell him and say mmmm. I didn’t bring it up at the time as it was my partners birthday so didn’t want any arguments (which I know would probably happen if I mention to MIL). I told partner after and he said he doesn’t find it strange but will tell them not to. I obviously understand a mum kissing/blowing raspberries on her own baby’s belly/bum to make them giggle but this is just making me very uncomfortable and would like to hear other people’s opinions.

Time to bring in a strict no kissing the baby rule at the very minimum. None. Zero. Excluding yourself and baby's father.

Also time to make many excuses not to see these people. Putting your child at risk from future predators because they have no boundaries.

No idea but people do. Why on earth wouldn’t you stop it if it’s real? She’s stroking, kissing, tickling babys bum and nipples but you leave it because you don’t want to start an argument?

My babies have all be 100% gorgeous, including their little baby bottoms. However, on the whole, it’s not a great smelling place on a baby. All grandparents, DH and I have sniffed all three of their bottoms but only to check for sneaky poos.

Tickling his nipples specifically is weird. If it was just general tickling that happened to include his nipples, that’s less weird.

I’ve told my partner to speak to them, when I’ve spoke to them directly before about something (coming over without warning) my MIL started shouting at me on the street and blocked me on everything, they’re not the reasonable people type. I’m currently on civil terms with them and will bring it up to them when we see them next but I wanted to speak to my partner first.

When someone is touching your child’s bum and nipples, sniffing their thighs and saying mmmm and it’s all making you uncomfortable you either leave with the child or say something then. Who cares if she blocks you on everything? Your responsibility is to your child.

Several of my dh's family use the phrase 'pinch those cheeks' when they see a cute baby - 'ooh look at him, I just want to pinch those cheeks' (they mean face). It really gives me the ick! Leave baby's cheeks alone! Why would anyone want to pinch a baby anywhere!!

I’d have stopped her automatically without even thinking. Put my hand out and pushed her face away. Also probably would have said “What are you doing? Don’t be weird.”

My instinct to protect my babies was automatic.

I wish I said something at the time and will say something when I next see them as it’s been bugging me ever since but by the looks of the poll a lot of people don’t think it’s strange?

I never heard of playing with babies’ nipples.

However when the late great Diana Rigg died I did a search on her, because she seemed interesting but I knew little of her.

I found an ancient interview on YouTube from when her daughter was a toddler. Ms Rigg was explaining how she adored nibbling babies’ bottoms - mainly but perhaps not exclusively her DD’s. And how resigned her DD had become to this. It was quite funny.

Was Diana Rigg a pervert? I think not.

I find it disconcerting when my MIL tickles my son's tummy or kisses his bum. He's 28 now, and doesn't really like it 😀

@poetryandwine yeah it's completely normal and quite funny when you hear someone say that they adore nibbling babies bottoms isn't it?
I'm taking the piss btw because that is a really weird thing to do to a baby and I don't know why she gets a pass just because she is Dianna Rigg and couldn't possibly be a pervert lol
I haven't watched the video and maybe it's a lovely story but I'm trying to imagine a story where anyone says they like nibbling babies bums and it's a heartwarming tale lol

Baby’s are quite small. It seems more likely that she ticked his chest and it happened to include his nipples. Was it actually his bottom that she was sniffing or did she lean over during a nappy change and was standing on the lower end of him. Did she actually press her nose right up against just bottom or just lean over? It seems more likely she got near these areas by mistake and meant that he smelled lovely in general.

I don't think you were wrong to have not confronted them there and then. I wouldn't have either because like you said, it might lead to an argument and DP would be caught in the middle. I think you took the right approach with talking to DP and having him have that talk with them.
