Lethargic 6 month old - viral cough

Cross posting for traffic

My poor DS has had a bad cough for 24 hours and has had a fever on and off which has come down with calpol. I was worried about him because he was lethargic and feeding less so got an OOH appointment. The GP said it was a viral cough and to keep an eye on how much he is feeding to ensure he isn’t getting dehydrated.

He has now been sleeping for 2.5 hours and is showing no sign of waking up any time soon.

Should I just let him sleep for as long as he needs as I presume he is sleeping off the illness?

Any advice would be much appreciated. He is usually such a happy and content boy so it’s very unlike him to be like this!

Just keep an eye on him, is he blue round his mouth, does he have a 'pull' at the base of his neck when he breathes, is he wheezing? If so he might have viral induced wheeze in which case he should see a doctor. If his colour looks normal and he's breathing fine then I'd let him sleep a bit longer. If he's BF you'll probably be able to safely feed him without waking him up too much and that will keep him hydrated, if he's bottle fed water will be best.
