School in Guildford and commuting from Haslemere/Grayshott

DH and I work full-time. We are considering a move to Hindhead - but from Sept 2025, our DS will be attending RGS Guildford. Would appreciate any experiences of the commute for the students of RGS to and from Haslemere/Grayshott... on their own or driven by their parents.

Our other school consideration is Churchers.

I think it's a bit far.
How about living in Guildford,Godalming or surrounding villages?

Hi, we're in the same boat, currently in Grayshott with a DS starting RGS in September. He will either be taken to Haslemere station or we'll have to drive him which will take approximately 30 mins in the morning. Living in Godalming would be preferable, although there are plenty of children getting the train from Haslemere each morning.

Hello @blobodob!!

nice to know we might not be the only one possibly form Grayshott.

both ours DS are starting in Sept y9 and y7… I wonder what the drive is like in the mornings drop off and collection?

what is the drive like from Grayshott to Haselmere during peak times? DH also needs to get to London.

Hi Extraenergyneeded, my DS goes to Bohunt but I get the train from Haslemere to London. There are plenty of school kids on the train, going to Guildford and also to Liphook for Bohunt and Petersfield for Churchers. As for the drive from Grayshott, avoid school rush hour and you'll be fine. Plenty of people drive/ get dropped off at the station. You get a seat and it's a civilised journey into London.

Our son got a place at RGS for September 2025 and we’re in Bordon. we will be driving him every morning.

@user141621 congratulations!! Both our boys are off in September, and hopefully all going to plan we shall be going from that neck of the woods too.

Managed this morning a reconnaissance drive; ended up at Guildford high street by the school (car park behind tony and guy) at 753am (leaving Shackleford at 0730)... and the traffic on A3 was fair; surprisingly the high street and road by the school was very quiet!.. fingers crossed!

Sounds as if there' potential for either sharing delivery to and collection from school OR that there's a gang of kids doing the train journey and again, potential for sharing collection/delivery to the station.

Extraenergyneeded · 09/03/2025 09:58

For those driving one trick is to drop at the bottom of the High Street near White House pub.Boys can then walk up the High Street and you don't have to get caught up in traffic and one way system.Similarly it's a good place to pick up.
