Help me with Office chair

Please could I ask for some help from MN hive.

Long time poster, NC for this and I know IABU to ask for your help here but I need quick ideas.

The context is that my wonderful close friends have helped me to realise I’m in an abusive relationship (not physical but he has shoved me in the past so I am slightly worried about calling it a day).

I’m in the process of separating out our lives quietly and getting ducks in a row so I can make a quick move when the time is right.

It’s complicated but I now have to work from a small table in my bedroom rather than desk and adjustable chair. It’s giving me a bad neck and the last thing I need is an extra health issue. I need a comfy adjustable office chair, but my bedroom is my sanctuary so I’d really like it to look nice too.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an office chair that is supportive and adjustable but would look ‘bedroomy’ when put in a corner with a scatter cushion on it.

Grey, dusky blue or ochre are ideal colours.

Hoping someone can help me keep my sanctuary sanctuary like when I’m not working.

Thanks so much in advance.

Not ‘serious’ - not at risk of death. But definitely impacting my mental health. Please be kind. I know my post is quick and to the point but I am actually living with a huge amount of distress. Hence the need to maintain a sanctuary.

Hello op, well done on your efforts so far to pave a path out of your relationship. I’ve been there and I know all these unrelated but related decisions and compromises take their toll!

I was in ikea the other day and sat on this white ‘gaming chair’ that they’ve now reduced to £99. It was actually so comfy!
they also had a £49 ex display one in my store

if he’s shoving you before you’ve even told him op, this sounds very serious to me.

Can you stay with your wonderful friends whilst you divorce?

ThinWomansBrain · 12/01/2025 09:20

if you're WFH full time, I'd go for function over aesthetics
& be careful that WFH doesn't end up with you being too isolated & cocooned in abusive relationship.

backwayentrance · 12/01/2025 09:21

can you rather spend more time in the office if things available to you?

Butterflyfern · 12/01/2025 09:21

Just sticking to the question asked...

I use a rocking kneeling chair. Most comfortable thing I've ever sat on ( can put knees or feet on knee pads and the rocking stops you getting stiff muscles whilst promoting proper posture)

But it also means I can put it away right under the desk after work so it can't be seen

StarCourt · 12/01/2025 09:31

@Butterflyfern does that style chair help? I wfh and have massive painful back and neck problems. How do you get on and off it?

Thank you so so much. It means a lot that you get it that these seemingly silly things actually mean a lot. It’s about me looking after myself too after years of me being bottom of my list of people and things to look after. Really appreciate it.

The shove was a very long time ago and I put in a very strong boundary around it.

No. I have to stay for now but plans are afoot!!

It’s only a couple of days a week luckily. Thank you.

I’m doing that as much as I can and it’s so much easier. But I’m in a bit of a complicated situation.

If you want lots of adjustments and can afford to spend a bit more,
https://www.corrigo-design.com/product/homeworker-chair/

I’ll check it out. Thank you.

If you see this @Butterflyfern - how do you make sure the keyboard and screen are the right height? I just took a look but they don’t look adjustable at all?
