Is this too late for a kid’s party?

Having an entertainer to my son’s birthday party but the hall / entertainer can only do 4-6pm. Is on a Saturday. Would this put you off going?

Kids will be between 1-5 years old.

It wouldn’t put me off no, as long as there was food for the kids

VivaVivaa · 11/01/2025 21:28

As long as you were providing tea and it was local I’d bring my 1 and 4 yo.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 11/01/2025 21:29

That would be fine for me, as pp mentioned as long as there's food 😂 Wouldn't want to go home and make dinner afterwards.

dragonfliesandbees · 11/01/2025 21:29

I think that's fine. Probably easier than earlier in the afternoon as younger kids might be napping. Agree there should be some food provided.

VivaVivaa · 11/01/2025 21:29

And by ‘tea’, sandwiches/cucumber sticks/pizza fingers etc would do, not like a proper sit down meal!

coxesorangepippin · 11/01/2025 21:33

Yes too late

Yes too late

Not too late at all. It sounds like a great time for a party and perfect for parents as it kills the late afternoon slot and once finished they can go home and start getting them ready for bed.

MinnieBalloon · 11/01/2025 21:35

I have two kids in those ages. That would be too late for us and we would decline. Bedtime is at 7pm.

2welshmums · 11/01/2025 21:36

It would be too late for mine that age.
If we don't stick to routine, my kid doesn't sleep well, wakes up multiple times and starts the day around 04.30.

JLou08 · 11/01/2025 21:37

I think it's a good time for a party if they will be getting food there. Tire them out then take them straight home to start the bed time routine.

HPandthelastwish · 11/01/2025 21:37

It's a bit late and children more likely to get a bit cranky and overwhelmed. If you do hold it then get a dominos delivery or do a chip shop run for several large portions of chips for both parents and children to tuck into, maybe a couple of loaves of bread and butter so people can have a butty alongside normal party fare

Xmasbaby11 · 11/01/2025 21:38

I think too late for mine when they were at the toddler stage tbh. By 4ish we were hitting the witching hour and they were better at home in a routine. 4-5yo, fine.

AKettleOfDifferentFish · 11/01/2025 21:39

It's too late imo. You'd have lots of cranky kids and tears etc

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 11/01/2025 21:40

Depends on the kids. My DC are in a rapid descent into tired grumpiness mixed with mania from 4pm.

Icanttakethisanymore · 11/01/2025 21:41

I think it’s fine with food.

Lavenderflower · 11/01/2025 21:48

I think it would be fine providing it is not too far from home and food is provided.

FanofLeaves · 11/01/2025 21:53

I’d much prefer it as mine at 3 is still napping 🤣 and lots of parties tend to be 12-2 or 1-3. As long as you provide tea, yours would be at the perfect time for us. We had my son’s third birthday party at 4-6 too.

underhedges · 11/01/2025 21:54

I might come if it was a special friendship but in reality would be too late for my 2 and 4 year olds. They can be asleep as early as 6:30.

MumonabikeE5 · 11/01/2025 21:55

Too late. And I would judge you.

It's too late for my child but where on earth is judgement coming into it?

When my dd was those ages it would be too late. Now she 8 it's ok but Abit later. Very few do such a late party so far. Only been to one and it didn't work as all the children were excited all day to go to the party then were hypo at the party due to excitement buildup but they were 8 and 9.
